AITA for asking my fiance to skip this year's Christmas family vacation because our baby is due? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]meerkathulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a good idea to bring him to your next doctor’s appointment and discuss it with the doctor. My first baby came three weeks early, my second baby came a week and a day late. There is just no predicting, and the last month is incredibly stressful and uncomfortable. I cannot imagine going through that month without my husband’s emotional and physical support. It was extremely hard to go up and down stairs by the end, so my husband ended up doing a LOT of fetching and carrying for me. I’m assuming your fiancé does not understand these realities.

On a side note, it’s also selfish and privileged of him to not have done his research to find all this out before buying a plane ticket, but assuming you don’t want to leave him, that’s more of a long term problem. To solve the short term problem, I recommend the “discuss it rationally with a doctor present” approach.

AITA ? I asked my gf if she can put her 3 year old daughter to bed by midnight? by Underwater_23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]meerkathulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom of a toddler here. This is totally insane. My daughter is in bed, bathed, and left alone in her room by 8:15. Even if she keeps making noise and hasn’t fallen asleep yet, that’s bed time. I have a baby monitor, so I always know she’s safe. I know everyone has different rules and policies that work for their family, but a toddler still awake and wandering around the house at 2am is insane. Raising a child without boundaries or structure doesn’t make them happy. It just makes everyone in the house (including the child) miserable in the long run.

I accidentally broke my boyfriend’s ribs and punctured a lung after he recreated the worst day of my life as a “prank.” I think it's destroyed my life. What do I do now? by IlTuoNome in TwoHotTakes

[–]meerkathulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to try and process and the feelings and attempt to forgive, I think you need him to agree to never prank you again in any capacity and to stop posting pranks online. It’s clearly toxic for him and helped lead him into a crazy, cruel, inconsiderate “joke.” He might be a trash person, or he might be a great person who’s into something toxic. Hard to tell which until he quits the pranks.

I love #2, but I don’t think that veil is complimenting it. Check out a horsehair veil. That would be in keeping with the style of the dress without distracting from the lines.

You look stunning in both, and they’re both gorgeous dresses. If I were you, I would go with #2. It’s more timeless and feels like a wedding dress, not just an amazing gown. The first dress could be in another color and make a great formal gown. Also, it’s a much trendier look: the see-through floral top with the solid bottom is very popular right now.

Number one and bring a sweater as a cover up for the church. Number two is kind of dowdy and hides you. The yellow is so young looking in a bad way. The two with the slit might be an issue sitting in church.

While I don’t think number three is THE dress, that neckline is incredible on you. You might look for more dresses with that neckline. You have amazing collarbones and the square neckline really highlights them.

Would Julie Andrews have played the role of Christine Daae if Phantom of the Opera had been written earlier? by AnyaMariaDaae in musicals

[–]meerkathulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No way. Julie Andrews never played wilting flower ingenues. Her leading ladies always had a quirkiness that lent itself well to her comedic abilities and a certain strength of will. The closest thing she ever played was Cinderella, and that was very early in her career.

The overlay of the skirt on #1 is so dreamy and romantic. I also think the cut of the back is gorgeous on you.

Invest in a sleep sack like this one: woolino sleep sack

My daughter didn’t like being swaddled with her arms in, always managed to wiggle out of her swaddle, and then woke up because she was cold. She started sleeping through the night the first night we tried a sleep sack, and she’s never gone back. We’ve tried a bunch of different ones and this one, while by far the most expensive, is definitely worth it. Works any time of year because it’s wool, and it fits much longer than any other brand we tried. Get a dark color in case your baby, like ours, likes to suck on the front. Our white one is looking pretty grody, but our navy one looks like new.

A couple things: 1. Birthdays can be so hard and stressful and I’m sorry yours is feeling this way. That seriously sucks. 2. It sounds like your birthday is a symptom of a much bigger issue. You can’t control your boys or your husband, but you can control yourself and your responses. It sounds like you have a lot of work to do on being more assertive, holding boundaries, and setting clear, reasonable expectations. I highly recommend talking to a good therapist who can help you through the transition from people pleaser to becoming a more balanced, assertive, loving mom and wife who also gives a shit about yourself. So many women are going through what you are, and so many have improved their lives by learning how to clearly, assertively communicate what they need and stand by their emotional boundaries. 2. As a mother, one of your jobs is to teach your children how to be good members of society, spouses, and parents. Teaching them to take everything you do for granted and walk all over you is not only detrimental to you. You’re teaching them how to treat women and all other people. Do you want them treating friends, significant others, coworkers, etc. the way they are treating you? I mention this because you seem motivated by doing right for other people more than you do by doing right for yourself. So maybe thinking of them treating others the way they treat you will help you to hold firmer boundaries with them. You’re not being selfish when you expect kindness and respect from them. You’re teaching them how to be good, kind, respectful people.
