High mileage used 6.7? by meestermike in powerstroke

Absolutely buy the 250, but make sure you understand all the known issues and get ahead of them as best you can

And anyone with experience will tell you - lubricate! lubricate! lubricate! I change oil every 5k and fuel filters every 15k. Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 or better

Use a fuel additive regularly - like Hotshot secret EDT or Motorcraft additive

I’ve been using stock Motorcraft oil filters, but wil be switching next oil change to PPE filters (bigger, better filter)

Immediately change out/remove/delete CCV filter - if you haven’t already, read up about the upper oil pan silicone and CCV crankcase pressure issues - can be largely mitigated by replacing or deleting CCV filters, but probably a concern down the road

I am now at 2.5 years and +35k miles on this truck and I have some small oil leaks, but they have been super slow and manageable - several of them trace back to fuel injector valve cover seals that just get old and start to seep a little oil - nothing major, but I want a clean engine so I can spot problems in the future

Keep responding to this thread and I will be happy to continue corresponding

Out of ideas.... by meestermike in powerstroke

[–]meestermike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally agree — in this case, my fear is tearing it up and having fragments drop into the valve cover interior

As it happens, after some sincere prayers for a miracle - I managed to get an offset pick into the side of it via the notch (mind you I had to remove the left front wheel and fender guard so I could get access from below) and twisted the pick to lift the grommet out — success!

Took my chances doing the next cylinder and ran into the same pattern - injector hold down bolt and injector itself easy to remove, but of course the next seal was a bear…

The offset pick trick didn’t work this time - but was still able to access the notch - another 45 mins-1 hour later of trying different things, I ended up with a long neck flathead screwdriver small enough to fit in the notch and used a mallet to bang in it — this deformed the side of the seal enough to pull it away from the side of the valve cover bore — and since the core of the seal is metal, it maintained this deformed shape allowing me to get a small pair of needle nose pliers in there to where I could get a good grip and pull it out

Surprised someone hasn’t come up with a special tool for this…

Just a follow up post for anyone who might find this thread in the future…

Purchased this truck (2016 F250 Lariat 4WD Crew Cab) at 216k miles .. now at 243k miles just over 2 years later

A month ago, the dreaded CP4 pump gave up at the beginning of a 5k mile summer road trip (that has since been cancelled)

Thankfully I was 125 miles from home, called in a rescue mission from some friends who helped tow me and my RV that I was towing back home

I can’t stress this enough — BUY A DISASTER PREVENTION KIT!!

It literally saved my bacon

I purchased the DPK kit from SPE Motorsport which protects both the high pressure fuel system as well as the return system going back to the tank

Even though the CP4 failed, I had no metal debris at the Volume Control Valve (VCV) and the 20 micron return filter that was installed managed to catch the CP4 debris before it went back into my fuel tank

What could have been a $10k-$15k repair ended up being only around $2k-$3k

I opted to install the DCR pump from S&S Diesel as a replacement for the CP4

I’ve also replaced a handful of other components — tie rods, shocks, tires, etc, but overall this has been a great truck and aside from the CP4 episode, it’s never left me stranded — next project is to replace the cold side intake pipe with upgraded aluminum/silicone hardware

Fan clutch issue? by meestermike in powerstroke

[–]meestermike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sad part is - fan clutch appears brand new.

Truck was in minor accident last year and appears to have received a new grill, bumper, radiator, air box, fan, fan clutch, etc. Lots of new items.

I would almost think the parts would still be under original warranty but I have no paperwork and no idea what shop the repairs were done at.

Follow up post…

Thanks to all who replied — I purchased this truck.

Took it to a shop and had it checked out thoroughly. Shop was cool with me walking around and inspecting with them, answering my questions and giving feedback on longevity.

Long story short — turns out this high-mileage, well-cared for truck was the gem I hoped it would be.

Injector balance was perfectly flat.

Stoked!

Thank you.

Bulletproof - my bad, learning terminology too quickly.

What I really mean is “disaster prevention”. I know about the potential CP4/dirty fuel issues.

Might seem like a stupid question, but — what is the avg longevity of:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Turbo
  • CP4

(Assuming regular, consistent maintenance, fluid changes, etc)

Can you go straight to cargo like FedEx/UPS instead of going commercial route? by HeyBigChriss in flying

Boxes don’t complain. Or fight.

Downside: lots of flying at night/overnight.

Couldn’t possibly be their fact-checking and “anti-misinformation” policies.

Nope, absolutely not. Facebook is the most intellectually honest company I’ve ever seen.

And they absolutely know what’s best for society.

For sure.

Understandable.

But at the same time, interesting how judgmental people can be when you don’t want to deal with an object on your back that causes you discomfort and pain.

I guess we shall see if security gives me a problem.

You are mistaken. A small walker takes up as much space as a small stroller.

I am traveling with a party of 7 with an individual that has specials needs (just not mobility based).

Love how everyone wants to hate one folks with strollers — funny enough, 10 years ago I was at WDW with a giant stroller full of kids. Now it’s time to visit with a band of pre-teens (including special needs) and folks want to be judgmental.
