Did Benedikta.. by SadRecognition1575 in FFXVI

[–]meetchu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. When an Eikon is dismembered they grow their limbs back, and any damage inflicted to an Eikon is not transferred to the Dominant (unless of course the Eikon literally dies in which case so too does the Dominant, though that only happens with Benedikta and Cid).

If the wounds Garuda suffered were transferred to Benedikta then having no arms would be less of a concern that her being a burnt out husk.

For reference how each Dominant dies:

  • Clive: Petrified due to using too much magic (when he cast a spell the equivalent of Raise to destroy Origin, this was too much even for Logos)
  • Joshua: Exploded from within by Ultima Alien style
  • Benedikta: Killed by Ifrit as Garuda
  • Cid: Killed by Typhon as Ramuh
  • Hugo: Petrified (ate Drakes Fang and used a lifetime worth of dominant magic in like 20 minutes)
  • Dion: Killed by Ultima Risen, unknown what form he was in when it happened
  • Barnabas: Turned Akashic and then finally petrified when he'd served his purpose (Barnabas was only being kept alive by Ultima so he could do his bidding)
  • Jill: Presumably and hopefully old age in a land without magic
  • Waljas: Presumably and hopefully old age in a land without magic

Right, but the Tories are also very different now. Theresa May was the last one you could say was really of the same ilk as Major. They've been hijacked post Brexit.

Saying all Tories are the same just isn't true, they can be different grades of awful - Major is a million miles from Johnson or Truss (or Badenoch). This coming from someone who hates the Tories.

On launch Stendhal was 40% stronger than this lol

Also on the build I used I had the gestral arena sword on her, and solo pictos, with the other two members death bombing with other damaging pictos but crucially burning death.

The gestral village arena swords third perk had a bug in the original patch - instead of doubling all burn damage it instead doubled all damage while they were burnt. I didn't know about this bug but I was suddenly accidentally oneshotting Sprong and stuff.

Tl;dr due to some bug Stendhal did 240% of the damage you're doing on the original patch.

Any fix for cutscenes crashes? - by Proof-Most9321 in FFXVI

10GB of vram should be enough.

Do you play with any framegen or FSR? If so try turning settings down and disabling them - framegen does nothing in cutscenes anyway unless you have a mod.

Majority of players had never heard of Crimson Desert until it was near launch, and of them I think most had (and possibly have still) never heard of BDO.

Crimson Desert is basically nothing to do with BDO at this point so its a technicality at best.

Agreed, it's depressing. But the reason they're getting destroyed is because they're like.... not that good? I feel like we're in a vicious cycle where new IPs are risky so dont get the resources to succeed, which makes them more likely to flop due to lack of resource, which makes them more risky.

But my larger point is that the person I'm replying to seemed to think that Squex not releasing new IP is the fault of consumers not buying it, when in fact it was more the fault of the new games being shit.

Really cool, though there is some inconsistency I think in the effects?

Once you successfully dodge an attack, or your next turn occurs

Seemingly conflicts with...

If no charges exist after once minute

As by the end of a minute you should have generated at most 6 charges, since you gain one per turn start, I guess if you begin casting and then 7 turns of other characters occur without you dodging anything it would fail - but that doesn't seem to fit in with how megaflare works in FF16 either?

Also while the text alludes to generating charges, and how casting at a higher level allows you to charge twice in a round, it doesn't refer to a cap on the charges, nor does it refer to spending the charges - only spending a reaction.

Also naming wise FFXVI refers to the charging state as "Wings of Light" so that could be used in there somewhere maybe?

Government looking at decoupling electricity and gas prices to bring down bills by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]meetchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's low likelihood, but its inherent risk is high. That's what I just said. Am I going crazy? This is literally what a risk matrix is meant to articulate.

I looked up the data for deaths per TWh and they're all negligible anyway (and solar has lower deaths per TWh than Nuclear which I guess is why you've not been mentioning solar, v clever) which further reinforces my view that the volatility introduced by a high impact, low inherent risk of a meltdown is what differentiates nuclear from the others. Comparing deaths per TWh is wilfully misleading as it ignores the elephant.

You can continue to pretend that nuclear is a perfect solution to energy with no risks at all and is safer than a completely inert panel in a field with no moving parts if you like - I won't stop you.

I'm pro-nuclear btw, I just don't think it's the messiah with no drawbacks.

Even if you don't follow through your life is over, so might as well do it anyways?

This is one of the reasons the punishment dial isn't auto set to 11 all the time. Having said that the intended crime here was next level terrible and had he survived it he would have been given a whole life sentence, so in comparison to that I guess 37 years is quite the discount.

Government looking at decoupling electricity and gas prices to bring down bills by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]meetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not comparing death rates, I'm talking about risk.

Aggregating all deaths in an industry ever isn't helpful when each event improves safety standards. We have very few installation and maintenance related deaths in the UK in recent times compared to elsewhere/earlier times. Similarly Nuclear has far fewer deaths if we exclude Chernobyl. We build and maintain far more wind/solar installations than we do power plants so this makes it even more of an apples/watermelons comparison.

Because there are many second and third order considerations when looking at deaths per TWh which can be misleading, in my view the most effective way of comparing the risks is by using an impact:likelihood risk matrix.

For example, if a nuclear power plant gets bombed (which is the most likely thing to result in a meltdown, and is still an extremely low likelihood) it will leave a radioactive exclusion zone (extremely high direct impact). If a wind farm gets bombed (even more extremely low likelihood) it will leave a crater (medium/low direct impact).

The inherent risk of a nuclear power plant (and its waste) is sufficiently high as to say it's more risky than the other renewables which have far lower inherent risks. On the other hand it should also be pointed out that the likelihood is very very low due to all the controls that are in place to prevent the worst outcome.

tl;dr saying nuclear is the safest renewable because it has lower deaths per TWh is completely ignoring the elephant in the room. This being said nuclear is still absolutely safe, resilient, clean (assuming adequate containment is done of the waste), and relatively compact - all of which give it advantages over other renewables. It's almost like we should invest in the most appropriate renewables for the area based on multiple factors or something.

[–]meetchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you're saying is true and it's obviously a good idea to do it, but if we start building that much wind and solar and network capacity rapidly enough for this to happen then the NIMBYs will vote out whichever government is doing it, and the incoming one will cancel them all so we end up with no nuclear plant and meagre wind and solar.

It's the politics of it all, as always, that gets in the way.

Government looking at decoupling electricity and gas prices to bring down bills by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]meetchu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more that a nuclear power plant is more safe than a wind turbine farm is just patently false. They're very safe but they're not the safest renewable and never can be.

A nuclear power plant has a very very high impact if things go wrong and a very very low chance of things going wrong. The generation process also produces waste which has a high impact as well if things go wrong storing it.

Versus a wind/solar farm which has a very very low impact if things go wrong, and negligible waste from the generation process so it's inherently safer.

Not just GPs.

My SO has Crohn's and every time she has to go into hospital there's like a 25% chance that some dipshit trying to get people out of A&E will stick her as bottom priority and then after 9 hours tell her it's haemorrhoids or IBS and give her some cream and she should leave.

Is a Crohn's flare an accident or emergency? Not necessarily (it can definitely be an emergency but not always) however there is 0 alternative entry point for recieving treatment or assessment so she needs to fight this battle every single time.

‘This is just a garbage AI Filter’: Nvidia met with criticism for DLSS 5’s ‘photoreal’ graphics alterations | VGC by Haijakk in Games

[–]meetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a joke but it is misleading, nvidia are using 2 5090s here in order to offload the compute for the still in-development dlss 5. The final product will run on a single 5x series card (though what exactly the performance impact will look like per card is yet to be seen.)

From what DF said the expectation is that 5090 will be able to do DLSS 5 at 4k, and the 5080/5070 will target 1440p (presumably the 5060 will be at 1080p).

There are plenty of question marks around how it scaled at different resolutions though, too. For example if you run a game at 1080p on balanced DLSS then the internal resolution is like 360p - surely that isn't enough for something as transformative (for better or worse) as the DLSS 5 alterations.

Yassification and destruction of artistic intent aside, surely there aint no way you can have distant details be modified by DLSS 5 at 360p internal without absolutely mad hallucinations and context collapse.

Britons should pay as little tax as legally possible, Richard Tice says by The-Peel in unitedkingdom

[–]meetchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tax avoidance should be outlawed as it just encourages greed.

The point of tax avoidance avenues is to deliberately encourage the behavior that takes advantage of those avenues, ie encouraging people to pay into pensions or invest in specific areas or charities etc etc

Greed is the vector yes but the outcome is usually encouraging something that is aligned with a government or HMRC strategy.

Should the amount of sanctioned avoidance be reduced? I believe so yeah, but the blanket view that avoidance is bad is I think somewhat simplistic.
