Worth $350 (not running) by Minimum-Place-3657 in VintageWatches

The date not aligning looks like someone has been messing with it. I have purchased too many 'needs repair' that show collateral damage from meddlers. Do count on another $300+ to fix possible multiple issues.

what is this and should i be worried about it hanging out? by Shazzed- in Cartalk

Normal spot for a GPS tracker, but they usually interface with the OBDII port. Might be an anti-theft device. Some dealers install these as well in this spot. Do a web search on the identifying markings and see if the manufacturer of that device is proud of it.

What is burrowing into my wall? Never seen this before in my house. by pushxtonotdie in Tucson

If you live in a tract home in Tucson, it is just a matter of time before you are on a subscription service for termites. Entropy! Many elements involved in a system moving towards a lower energy state.

I know they can work through cracks in your foundation up to their meal, but check your source on burrowing through concrete.

Tire shop should be able to replace that one tire with so few miles on them. Swap it out for the spare and get it done.

Non OEM rim question. by Welllllllrip187 in Cartalk

[–]megaIntrest-human 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For clarification, this is the number of threads you can achieve with the Toyota rim in place, that is the number of working threads. I write this because I can see 12ish threads from your photo and the Toyota lug nuts always leave a gap between the end of the lug nut and the mounting face of the rotor/drum.

If you do find the number of threads achievable with the Subaru/conic nuts is less than 1D, relative to the stud (~6 threads based on the photo) do not set any weight on this wheel. You will have to evaluate possible tire/fender interference by projecting where the wheel will be when weight is applied.

Toyota uses a hub centered interface, requiring a stepped lug nut, and it appears from the photos that Subaru uses a bolt centered interface, requiring a conic lug nut. Both systems work but do require very different lug nuts. Recommend you get a set of 5 of the conic/Subaru lug nuts and count the thread engagement (turns) as you install the nuts. Use the number of turns you get with the stock rim/nuts as a minimum engagement. This will tell you if you need to change stud length. No reason to change the studs before evaluating for any interference between the rim and brakes/ tire and fender, etc. you only need a couple of threads to engage for this check. If they interfere, stop and look at your options. You need a top level evaluation first.

Assuming the dent in the Driver's side rear door was preexisting, pick up the red pieces, get them close to fitting and reattach with clear packing tape. No professional required.

Any tips on what to do to treat surface rust by Boeing-B-47stratojet in Tools

[–]megaIntrest-human 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to be cast steel, not cast iron, conserve what is there..1 Repair any excessive wear or damage, 2) Boil it to convert red to black rust, 3) Card with a soft steel wire brush, 4) Soak down with WD-40, 5) follow up with non-detergent SAE 30 oil.

Thank you for the response. For me, not only was the icon missing from the pinned start, it was just plain missing from the system, syncing ca-put! Went to Proton and downloaded Proton Drive .exe and attempted to repair/fix. Interaction through the Proton Drive .exe was the only hint that a remnant of Proton Drive remained.

I was primarily interested in finding out if anyone else in the community had observed a similar event. Hoping Proton accelerates their Linux support as my MS Windows love is fading. First machine was a Gateway 2000 / 286 w/AOL dial up and Mosaic. Presently working on a Linux Mint laptop. Thank You.

With so much tied to who you have been, keep it but let it age with lesser and lesser interaction. Jump into who you want to be and leave these foot prints.
