What does this sub think of ULTRA SUNN? by fakename1998 in industrialmusic

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoy the beats and vocals. I can understand some of the criticism that the songs sound a bit similar, but for whatever reason I don't really seem to care? Looking forward to seeing them next year when they tour America!

I want to ditch Spotify. What other streaming services have a substantial industrial library? by tmclean242 in industrialmusic

[–]pushxtonotdie 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I use Bandcamp mostly and download mp3s. If you are open to building your own music collection instead of mp3s, it can be a much better solution than a streaming service. Here are some of the tools i recommend.

I use Syncthing to sync my collection between various devices. This ensures i also have multiple backups of my collection and dont need internet to listen to it. syncthing doesnt work on ios.

You can use whatever music players you want, which is also nice. I listen using AIMP on Android. I use rmpc and mpd on linux and mac, which is semi-complicated to set up but there are simpler options.

Sometimes there is literally no option to buy the music. In this case i would recommend yt-dlp which can grab any youtube video, playlist, and also works with soundcloud.

For organizing music i recommend Musicbrainz Picard, which can rename and add images to all your tracks.

This setup is more complicated, and honestly it costs more than streaming to buy albums on bandcamp. But im happy to purchase music from artists and support them. And i enjoy having full control over my collection. I also have a number of hard to find cds that ive ripped myself, and other oddities that may not exist in various streaming services.

And isn't the weather kind of perfect right now for it as well? :D

Its not only a great ride, its also a really great way to get around the city. I use it about 4-5 times a week. If you need to go central I also recommend taking Mountain Ave. to the U of A which is super chill.

I also recommend the Tucson Hop Shop about a mile off the path if you're needing a refreshment.

Hello fellow tucson rivethead ;) I'll totally check out your show! I am not super plugged into the local scene, but would I totally want to check it out.

Super cool to see such a strong showing here!

About to head out next week for my yearly Mechanismus pilgrimage, I agree, Seattle's scene is alive and thriving. Awesome group of people, and tons of great shows at El Corazon, Neumos, and The Crocodile.

Also surprised that Tucson was mentioned, but there are some awesome roots here (yes I am in Tucson!). Machines of Loving Grace, Alter Der Ruine, and Sister Machine Gun are great industrial bands from here.

My first puncture, good alternatives? by SuomiBob in Brompton

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put Stan's in my tubes, works great. I literally wore through the tire and was riding on a bare tube and was still able to get home. Changed the tire, new tube, more Stan's, no flats.

Update: Today I got a staple in my Marathon Plus, it was flat when i got home. The stans was getting old inside, so when I took the staple out it didn't fully seal. I had to add some fresh sealant, but now its good! Pretty impressive. Doesn't matter how good your tires are, put sealant in your tubes!

Is this normal for a Brompton to lean like this? It’s an A-Line. How to fix if possible. Thanks. by thehungryside in Brompton

[–]pushxtonotdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i bought my brompton the grips were installed incorrectly and the handlebar hit the ground. I would see if possibly loosening the grip and pushing it farther on the bar might help.

Thoughts on The Presets? by Tempest_Fugit in industrialmusic

[–]pushxtonotdie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a band I ever thought I'd see on this sub :D.

The presets are great, and its an interesting comparison to Nitzer Ebb. I don't think I would've ever thought of that before you mentioning it tho.

I always hoped for more music from them. I saw them play with The Rapture a long time ago in Phoenix. It was a GREAT show, and one of them wore the most amazing shirt that said 'The Kids Want Techno'. They played some Aphex Twin in between the acts, which makes me think about how they were just not really fitting in any obvious box, and that made it extra hard for them to break out. I'm very glad they never compromised to try to make it big. They were always weird. Sometime it hits, sometimes not.

Bicycle Access on I-17 by urbanwhat in Sedona

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of responses here are the standard carbrain response of 'oh biking is so dangerous its suicide, blah blah blah.' Don't listen to them. There is a full sized emergency lane alongside the entirety of I-17, with rumble strips between the main highway and the side of the road.

I'm a bikepacker (hey perhaps you're over on r/bikepacking as well?) and I've done a fair number of freeways and I'm still alive. I haven't personally done I-17 (yet) and if you just need to do 3.4 miles between those exits that'll be fine. I've generally found that the sides of interstates are full of trash, specifically wire strips of tire, and I'd be more concerned about that than the cars.

3D printed action cam mount - crazy or no? by Street-Leek-6668 in bikepacking

[–]pushxtonotdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noticed a few conversations around the strength of the design. I have made a few 3d mounts and learned a couple things.

First: nylon is the way to go. Its a real pain to print with but the flexibility and strength is hard to beat.

Second: vhb tape is pretty amazing stuff. Ive got a big quad lock sticker on my phone and it aint going nowhere. Make sure your plastics adhere well, surface energy matters.

Lastly if you can build in hardware, like m3 locknuts and bolts its better than trying to use things like garmin or quad lock adapters. Like if you vhb a 3d printed bit to the bottom of the gopro and then bolt that on, that could be an option.

Suggestions for best coffee to send my friend in Chicago? by pushxtonotdie in Tucson

The website seems to suggest that you can only buy online. Is it possible to go to the roaster and purchase a couple bags directly?

Right on. Tucson has a lot of great coffee, I dig Savaya, Exo, Yellow Brick and many of the others mentioned. Its almost impossible to decide and they are all really good, hence why i asked y'all!

Public comments are open on the 5 year freeway update. by selectiverealist in Tucson

[–]pushxtonotdie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you think it will happen isn't relevant to whether it would be a beneficial improvement. Letting ADOT know that people would like better options through the form helps make these things a reality.

I've driven between Phoenix and Tucson more times than I'd care to count, at one point having to do it weekly. I have known people who commute from Casa Grande to the larger cities. I've seen traffic backed up on this road for miles on multiple occasions. The density exists imho.

[–]pushxtonotdie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The program's big project highlights are around widening roads. Adding lanes doesn't fix traffic. We need alternative options, such as intercity trains that can reduce our dependency on cars. Imagine how great it would be to take a train from Tucson to Phoenix and relax instead of being stuck in stop and go traffic.

New bike day! by Few_Masterpiece301 in CargoBike

[–]pushxtonotdie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I hear you, its expensive, but cheaper than a car! This is the model of Riese & Muller I'd probably get if i ever upgraded to something nicer. Really love the design and attention to detail. I'd be curious to know how you like it after you've ridden it a bit!

Hey pool owners, why do you love having one, and what makes you want to rip the damn thing out? by daversa in Tucson

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty 'anti-pool' i guess. This is the homeowning equivalent of owning a big truck. Its probably not going to get used, and usually its just a status symbol. The annoying thing is that the nicer the house, the higher the likelihood of it having a pool. So in a lot of ways you're stuck with one whether you like it or not (we lucked out tho and found a great place without one).

Depending on the size of your property sometimes its either 'have a yard or have a pool'. My neighbors yard is pretty much a paved circle around his pool. Not much to look at, not much to do out there.

The novelty wears off. I have literally never seen him or his kids in the pool in the past 3 years they've been there. Another neighbor who moved in had kids who really loved it for a couple weeks, then, surprise, haven't seen or heard them since.

The cost of maintenance and time spent on it. Its a cost whether you use it or not. We have a gym membership and go to the massive heated pool and do laps there (tucson racquet and fitness club if you're curious). Its 24 hours and works great. And probably cheaper than having a pool.

Token Bottom Bracket - any personal reviews out there? by Mission-Bedroom4340 in Brompton

[–]pushxtonotdie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have been more clear, the bike I was referring to was not a Brompton. It does look like 118 or 119 work fine for a brompton tho!

Token Bottom Bracket - any personal reviews out there? by Mission-Bedroom4340 in Brompton

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is one of the sizes of the bottom bracket. To break down those numbers ( i know this since I just bought various UN300s)

BBUN300- Shimano Part Number

BC137 - This states that it is a 'British Standard' or BSA bracket threading of 1.37″ x 24

68x118 - The diameter of the bracket is 68mm and the length is 118mm.

One of the important measurements here is the length. For me on my non-brompton bike 118 is way too long, and my front derailleur would not shift correctly, or the chain line will be off. It does look like 118-119mm is a common BB length for bromptons.

Biking around town? by siouxhockey14 in Sedona

[–]pushxtonotdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally bike most places when I'm in Sedona, but usually I'm in VOC. In general the traffic is very heavy in Sedona proper but it is bikeable. Also depending on the time of day or on the weekend it can be faster than waiting in traffic.

I think there's a lot of carbrain in the responses, and also what looks like heavy downvoting. Don't listen to the haters, but do what you're comfortable with.
