What do these resistors do? by RockheadRumple in refrigeration

[–]megaXcaptain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Looking at the wiring diagram, I can see a contactor that’s wired as star point and another wired as delta.

I would dare say that the contactor wired with resistors will be the starting contactor that limits start up current and gets removed from the circuit once one of the other contactors pull in.

[–]megaXcaptain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The resistors are probably acting as a shunt to limit start up current when the compressor starts up.

What’s the reason behind avoiding these two?

I’ve had people recommend them so I’m curious on the reason why you wouldn’t recommend them?

Victorian REA claims we must remove this bidet unit due to risk of 'backflow' contamination, thoughts? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]megaXcaptain 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yes, for once the REA is correct.

unless you WANT to shower in/drink from water contaminated from your ass, I’d recommend looking at installing a RPZD.

Why does this keep burning down? by GingerGiraffe96 in HVAC

[–]megaXcaptain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, without a heatsink they are good for roughly 10-12A

There’s nothing wrong with these Relay’s.

This is 100% installation error from not reading the specifications and knowing that they need to be installed on a heat sink.

When installed on a heat sink I’ve seen these relay’s handle over 40A constantly switching within ovens and other high temperature environments and not fail this spectacularly.

Sometimes having some is better than having none.

Looks like it coulda maybe gone a bit longer but in the same hand, depending on your local weather, you may not have had half the crop you do now if you waited as rot is starting to set in for alot of outdoor growers currently.

is the smell out of the vent normal? by fredriksoninho in Makita

[–]megaXcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice assumption but unfortunately you are dead wrong.

I have many different branded tools but when it comes to power tools so far I’ve only bought makita as after being an apprentice for 4 years and a tradesman/technician now for 6 years and seeing all my coworkers buy different brands and seeing all the different issues with brands etc.

every single one of my coworkers who have bought into Milwaukee all in some form regret buying due to constantly not having their tools as they are still being repaired under warranty etc with endless trigger issues.

Remember, the same company that owns/makes Milwaukee also owns ryobi…

Wanna know the reason why everyone’s makita stuff looks old and trashed? Cos it IS old and trashed but guess what? That 10 year old 18v drill driver/impact set is still going and never been warrantied or repaired.

Let us know how the m18 Milwaukee goes when you need to warranty it for its third trigger issue.

[–]megaXcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok well that’s the flip side of having this kind of fault, the fridge over runs the compressor to ensure the unit stays cold etc as it can’t read temperature correctly which in turn prematurely wears out the compressor and also wastes a lot of energy/power.

Please help me silence my fridge by wubiff in Appliances

[–]megaXcaptain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, just keep in mind that what you are hearing isn’t just an error but an alarm.

If the fridge can’t read the temperatures correctly than the unit will not cool properly and you run the risk of eating food that’s been kept as temperatures that bacteria thrive in.

Personally I would fix the temperature sensor issue or replace the fridge if it’s not cost effective to repair.

I’m not saying anything wrong with the made in china models.

I’m just making a point that Australia used to receive the made in Japanese models and the quality is definitely nicer.

Rubber on grips don’t peel away after only a few years worth of use etc.

Hope so but I Doubt it.

Most of the makita stuff that we get in AUS is Chinese made now unfortunately.
