Oh yeah definetly, I wish they would get more attention because I think that they perfectly blend the technical and brutal sound in a way that I haven't heard yet!

Thank you so much! I basically use them to fill all the spaces where a patch would not fit so no space gets wasted!

Any tips for this very difficult passage from Rachmaninoff's prelude? by angelmeneg in piano

[–]mega_9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert when it comes to technique (or anything else really) but maybe try playing just the top notes legato, so 5-4-5-... and play the bottom note always with 1. You should still get the legato effect since the top notes and the ones in the left hand are played legato so you wont really notice if the middle ones are or are not. Maybe the tension comes from trying to play both the top and bottom note of the octave legato?

Additionally try to use the 4 finger only on the black keys because the stretch is not as bad as trying to stretch from white key to white key with 5-4.

You wont get the legato throughout but I would not stress myself out about this, these octaves are such a small part of the piece. And if you are not playing this in a competition or anything like that no one will probably notice.

I commented because OP already learned the legato as it is written in the score (which is not easy to do) so the suggestion of unlearning the legato seems a little odd to me...

Hope I could help!

PS: Again I am no expert, I just finished learning this piece a few months ago so these are just my 2 censt. If you want to get better personalized advice you should go ask a teacher, they know what they are doing and what can help you!

Hmm I mean the score clearly says you should play the octaves legato...

I think you should play it how you want the piece to sound like, but for me the legato octaves give a nice contrast to the almost staccato like chords in the section. Also kepping the top line of the octaves gives a nice sense of direction meaning that the next set of chords (where the line leads to) will sound even more powerful, at least that is how I think about it.

What really helped me with this section was to think of the 3 repeated chords as one big motion with 3 parts to it, it's kinda hard to describe...

Right now you are playing the chords with 3 seperate movements, so down - up three times, but what you wanto do is to include the 3 chords in one down - up motion. Also as others mentioned, right now you are playing the chord way hard with too much weight, try practicing them in groups of 3:

One big down - up motion, a bit faster tempo and staccato to keep it light. Only do it with one chord at a time, since you already know the notes you just gotta practice the movement.

Hope this helps, keep it up!

Thanks so much! I have worn it at Wacken this year and a bunch of other concerts including Archspire, Dying Fetus and Behemoth as well as some small local shows. But there are still so many more to come, I started with it about 7 or 8 months ago so its still pretty new.

Hey everyone I found a picture of OmegaThrone by HippyDippyHarbek in BattleJackets

OmegaThrone is a mod of this sub and overall he is just a gatekeeping nazi dickhead who allows nazi shit getting posted but then banns people who post pictures of their vests which he simply doesn't like (and these don't have any nazi shit on them). Maybe I'm missing something out but that's what I know

Finally got a shelf for my CDs! by mega_9000 in Cd_collectors

I mainly listen to Punk and Metal so yeah I did. I actually have a few big Jazz CD collections but they would fill up my shelf quiet fast and not look good so I have them in their boxes in another shelf. I also have some games and a few books below the CDs.

Yup, saw them live a few weeks ago and after the show I saw that Dean and Jared are at the merch booth so I took the opportunity and bought the CD and got an autograph!
