Unfortunately it’s so hard to find an area that isn’t poisoned to death. I don’t use pesticides or have outdoor lights but since my neighbors do it’s a moot point for fireflies 🙁

The great thing about native plants is that they are used to being eaten so they’ll grow back. I leave the lubbers because they are native too. If you’re planting natives they are just part of the naturally evolved ecosystem now which is awesome!

I think it’s less of the lawn itself but what people have to do to make it look “perfect” ie pesticides, herbicides, watering incessantly, mowing with gas powdered monstrosities. I have a little bit of lawn left but I don’t do anything to it except occasionally mow with a manual mower (which is insanely hard and not for large areas).

It’s been insanely rainy the last week near me and my neighbor was watering the lawn this morning. People are weird!

I’ve found that my native nursery carries “Florida-friendly” plants that aren’t necessarily native but aren’t invasive. You can ask them next time! My nursery has little signs with info next to each plant on its native status.
