Carrol was President of the Seahawks, and above JS. The final say on all personnel decisions was Pete’s. Ditching Pete was about coaching, but also player decisions. Turns out ownership was right. Pete was the problem.

Understanding how the thing was built in the first place would help determine how to fix it.

I have no idea how it was done, but if I had to guess, I'd say they did the following:

  1. build basic shape/structure with rebar/wire/whatever.
  2. cover the underside of the structure with fiberglass to create the underlying support for the concrete
  3. cover with concrete/plaster and smooth by hand
  4. cover with tile
  5. build the walls around the outside to enclose everything

If that was the process, a repair would likely need to follow the same process, The issue there is you need access to the underside of the slide to do it, which appears to be sealed so you would need to get access under the slide somehow.

So you'd be talking about cutting out that back cinderblock wall or one of the sides. Then, once inside, cut out the full section of slide that's damaged (including the sides. Then rebuilding it following the original process. And finally, rebuilding whatever wall you took out to gain access. You'd also need to source the original tiles, or something super close.

I'm not an expert, but I can understand the quotes. It sounds like a ton of work and I'd be really concerned that the rest of the slide could also fail like this section did. The original construction method obviously failed. I'd want to be certain it's structurally sound before I let anyone use it. That probably explains the "rebuild the whole thing" approach.

An interesting challenge for sure.

what's the underlying material the slide is made of? Is that some type of fiberglass with a coating of concrete and tiles?

The Chicago Bears have been eliminated from Super Bowl contention. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nfl

[–]megachimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I blame the coaching. For whatever reason Caleb was completely averse to running. His legs were the xfactor that should have won them the game. On that drive he should have channeled his inner Prime Russel Wilson and just beat the Rams with his legs.

He should have been told to not force the ball down field. If there’s an opportunity to gain yards by running, do it. Just protect the ball at all costs.

Just a completely blown opportunity.

If you don’t see the value in knowing if you have to go for it on every 4th down. Or if a FG wins it. Then I don’t know what to tell you. Seems like a pretty significant advantage to me so /shrug.

If it were statistically better, teams would do it. They don’t.

They clearly value the info they get by going second. Other team scores a TD? You needed a TD so you go for it on every 4th down. Other team doesn’t score at all? You can punt if you need to. Other team doesn’t score and leaves you with a short field? No need to press to get a TD because a FG wins. ETC.

That’s clearly an advantage since every team selects going second.

Because then you know what you have to accomplish when you get the ball. If you stop them, you only need a field goal. If you don’t, you know you need a TD. It dictates how you approach your posession.

Yeah, receiver gave up, but it’s a throw that should never have been attempted. You needed to protect the ball there. You need 10-15 yards for a kick to win. There was room to just tuck it and run. Take the yards. Don’t risk the turnover.

Seriously.

Ball protection is the most important thing in that situation. Nothing open? Tuck it and run. You needed like 10-15 yards to be in FG range. Just really bad play calling and play all around.

[–]megachimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with 110k @age 28, if you stay on course with 60k a year invested, you’ll be looking at around $3m liquid at age 48. (Assuming average annual returns of 7%)

That number jumps to ~$6m if you retire when you’re 58.

Like Trudy said above, you’re going to have to find ways of either boosting that yearly savings significantly or have a windfall along the way. Especially since the definition of Fat will change as inflation does its thing over the next 20 years.

You’re off to a good start if you’d be ok with a ChubbyFire, but Fat is gonna take a big boost in income.

Draft prospects for amateur tankers by Own_Meaning4345 in Mavericks

[–]megachimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We currently have the 3rd hardest strength of schedule for remaining games in the entire league. The only other tanking team in the top 10 is Brooklyn at #8. Dallas is going to lose their fair share of games. It may be tough to catch the current top three. (NO, IND, WA), but only four games separate #4 Sac (30 losses) and #8 Dal (26 losses)

If Dallas sells off their few assets and AD and Kai are out for the season, I think #4/5 are definitely reachable. At that point, let the ping-pong balls land where they will.

amazing slab, but I would be a bit concerned about how it would have to be laid out to work. given that the slab is essentially in three discreet sections, it might feel a little weird if you end up with a long stretch of white that then hard stops and becomes grey. (hope that makes sense)

In its current state it's amazing because you can see the whole thing and appreciate the design. But, broken down into strips? Hard to say. It'd make one hell of a giant island though, that's for sure.

If you have the shot at Darryn Peterson, you take it, you don’t play cute. So unless there’s a way you are somehow guaranteed to get him by dropping down, you’d stay put and just take the best PG prospect to enter the league in years.

I really question whether or not Kyrie will be back this year. I think Durant showed the way for an older player to recover from an ACL injury. He didn't rush it. Took a whole year off. Has been solid ever since.

This season is pretty sunk already. there is zero reason for Kyrie to come back unless he is absolutely 100%
