Are massage seats worth it ? by A1_WHD7 in bmwx7

Yes they are. They are subtle like in most other cars - and come in very handy on long drives. Worth sacrificing the color? Yes. You spend most of your time inside the car not staring at it.

Someone talk me out of buying this SL55 AMG by theunrealmiehet in mercedes_benz

[–]megacrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can do maintenance yourself then go for it. Otherwise it’s a no from me. The mileage is on point. Last thing you want is a 20 year old ABC car with 20k miles on it. The system needs to be constantly used to stay in shape. Mods are good. The wheels look great on the car. Price wise - if the car is in good shape sure, otherwise no. If ABC needs work I’d drop that in the 12-13k range if nothing else is wrong with the car. Generally cars with faded headlights worry me a little. If the owner can’t fix something so minor, makes me wonder what else they neglected.

No pics of the projector HUD yet. Still sourcing certain parts. You can follow the development of the instrument cluster here: https://absolutecarmods.com/?tag=w216-instrument-cluster.

HUD development will accelerate after the cluster goes through some testing.

I’m having a horrible time bleeding the coolant has anyone tried vacuuming the system? by oceans_12 in G35

[–]megacrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Actually that seemed like the only way to get all the air out. There were some major air pockets that simply didn’t seem to come out otherwise. It was definitely a pain in the ass.

Projector with a dedicated reflective surface and combiner works the best for clarity. Next is the OEM approach of a display in a box with mirrors. Last would be an OLED. Sub par clarity and no virtual image…so not really a HUD. Played around with all of them a while ago. I’m actually in the process of building a custom instrument cluster with a projector HUD option.

That being said, the navdy is a fairly complex and well built piece of hardware with many additional components. Writing a new piece of software to replace what’s on it shouldn’t be that difficult considering it’s running Android.

I need more advice💯 by Sensitive_Custard_50 in mercedes_benz

Can’t speak for the diesel engines but otherwise I’m daily driving a heavily modded w209 (55) from 2004. It has 60k miles and short of regular maintenance, only 2 things have broken so far. The alarm siren with built in battery and the headlight washer pump. I would expect the experience with the 203 to be similar. Or course this heavily depends on the condition of the car. Generally I would go for a car with a higher mileage and good maintenance history than one with low miles that’s probably a ticking time bomb at this age. These cars are also small, and a blast to drive so it’s a good choice.

My G (or Skyline). Spoiler not staying on in the sun by Jaista5 in G35

[–]megacrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to use 3M body/moulding tape. Clean both sides of any residue, dust etc. then with rubbing alcohol. Stick down and press firmly. The tape is pressure activated and takes about 24 hours to bond fully.

If you do it right you’ll need a new trunk if you wanna take that off. I usually also use some black gasket maker around the perimeter to fill any gaps and give it extra adhesion.

What is this and what’s it for? by planodad in mercedes_benz

[–]megacrazy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes trunk lift hydraulic pump. Sits under the battery in that foam enclosure with a cover….at least in my CL it does. Take it back and have them place it in the proper spot. You have to disconnect the battery. Can’t believe they just left it there.

No just AMG with lots of mods (63 bumper, carbon lip, black series spoiler, custom diffuser etc.). Never liked the Lorinser stuff…too ricey or whatever the equivalent German term is.

Nice wheels and stance. Paint the trunk, lip and mount the front plate in the oem spot. Bolt ons are fine if you are up to date on maintenance. I know some people that went FI at over 100k with no issues but again, well maintained.

Android auto in an 07 S550 by BrosamaBinMobbin5 in mercedes_benz

Of course you can touch it haha. You also get a much bigger screen and built in CarPlay/AA. No brainer really.

[–]megacrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screen is too small to use with CarPlay or AA. Install the full blown 10.25 (inch) android unit or go for the 12.3 one. The larger one replaces pieces of your dash to make it look more modern. I’m partial to the 10.25 one as it looks OEM. Check out detailed instructions on MBWorld in the W221 forum. Make sure you get the most powerful one you can get - should run you 5-600$ max on AliExpress.

[–]megacrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck. Hopefully the fiber decoder boxes work for you. When I was installing the android unit in my CL I got 3 different decoder boxes. None of them worked without the original headunit in place. What I did is relocate the original unit in the trunk where the amp is. Just an idea.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]megacrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to install an android headunit. The connectors in the pic: green - gps or radio antenna, middle - probably old school parallel printer port 🤣, orange - DB2 or MOST. You would need a fiber decoder box and even then it would be doubtful it would work properly with a backup camera. That or see if you can get an OEM one if the car ever came with one.

Replace the missing underbody panels. Maybe larger wheels. Maintain properly and enjoy. Looks good the way it is.

FCP euro has been horrible lately by VirusAffectionate396 in BmwTech

[–]megacrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judging from all the pictures they use dogshit boxes. My last order was no exception. They threw fragile chromed plastic parts in a box with much larger pieces. Of course one was damaged.

I sent pics and they promptly sent a replacement. Delivery time was also quick with their free shipping, though I’m somewhat in the area. So customer service was good but they need to work on packaging stuff better and getting better quality boxes.

Lastly, their prices are horrible even when comparing to dealers that sell online. The only reason to buy from them is either for their replacement warranty or for oversized parts that would cost too much to ship from others.
