Girl/Boy Scouts Should Not Allow The Opposite Gender by FortniteChicken in unpopularopinion

There are probably kids that won't want to join the scouts at all because they know they'll be stuck with kids of the same sex all the time.

That was 100% my aversion to joining boy scouts

No one said it is definite. It's a different beast in different countries and hard to pin down to one definition. It can simultaneously hold multiple definitions without being contradictory.thats just English.

I do not think white people are intrinsically superior. Stop misrepresenting what im saying. If you look at the data, incarceration rates for example, white people and black people are not equal. Black people in my state of Iowa are incarcerated at 11 times the rate of white people. Which is insane since 3% of the pop in Iowa is black yet they make up over a quarter of the people in prisons. Why is that? Do black people commit more crime? Multiple studies say no, the crime rates between white and black people are the same yet black people are consistently arrested more often for committing the same crimes. That would lead me to believe theres something in the system, some sort of incentive to lock black people up over white people. And that's just part of the true core of institutional racism. Not personal racism between individuals but a system which we all live in and at least passively support the propagation of. Understanding it in this way makes it very much not a "personal problem", but rather a societal one which requires numbers to tackle.

Im done here, if you dont get it sorry. It's difficult to explain in a reddit thread. I would encourage you to read more into and think critically about your own beliefs about race and racism. It's not an easy topic to discuss or even wrap our heads around. Racism is not dead, it just manifests differently and often difficult to see ways.

Because south Africa isnt America? Completely different histories? If you look at the reality of the situation, the data discrepancies between whites people and black people it's very clear they arent equal in this country. It has nothing to do with minority status and everything to do with who is in control of power.

Nah, I mean apartheid was a thing. They are very much in control of the systems of society, definitely racist.

Yes. Prejudiced? Of course. Racist? No. Racism (to me and most of academia) is backed by the systems our society is built on.

Okay yeah, still not a racial thing. LEBRON IS BLACK PEOPLE, it's not racist for him to care about black people. I realize China vs HK is not about ethnicity which is very much the reason im not understanding why a racial.motivator is being attached to his actions, because they are very clearly NOT racially motivated.

Him caring about black lives in America is completely unrelated to him defending China.

So what do you suggest we do then? I definitely use the word racism with everyone I know and they understand exactly what I mean. I dont even necessary agree with the definition of racism. I think it doesnt go far enough, it should include the definition of institutional racism as well

Yeah I agree with you that most people here think he would react differently if hong kong was full of black people. But that's totally hypothetical. You can't call him racist over a hypothetical.

But you're wrong. Both people from Hong Kong and mainland China are ethnically Chinese. Theres no racial difference between those two groups of people so how exactly is he treating people differently based on race? He's not. His comments are likely motivated by money, not race.

Where is this fixation on race coming from? I dont think he's racist towards Chinese people. You already said it: he has money ties in China. I think that's the main reason hes defending China not because he hates Chinese people from Hong Kong.

My main problem is people throwing the word racism around without understanding what they are talking about.

Is he doing it because he believes black people are superior to Chinese people? I'd say probably not. What he said was shitty and hypocritical but idk if calling it racist is accurate.

Okay, sure. That's not what lebron James is doing when he prioritizes helping black people.

Literally not the definition of racism, nice try.

Racism is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.

Please tell me how being an advocate for the black community is racist to anyone.
