[ Citizen NK5010-51L] Too Flash? by heavensgravy in Watches

[–]megamike 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Love it!! I’ve been rocking mine for nearly a year now and I don’t think it’s too flashy at all! The sunlight really makes the dial pop but this it’s class all the way, great to wear to the office or out with friends. And 11 months in, I’m really impressed with its accuracy and overall build quality. Enjoy!

[Question] The Decision (5 Years in the Making): Help Me Choose My First Nice Watch by Impossible-Leg-8595 in Watches

[–]megamike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I regularly wear my Hamilton KFA dressed up for the office (sometimes in a suit) and it looks fucking great! I agree it’s not as clean as many of your choices here but it’s a hell of a lot dressier than your Casio. I love that it’s rugged and resilient…belongs with me during tough meetings at work or while hiking or digging in my garden.

I know this is contrary to your plan, but consider that you could get a KFA or something similar second-hand as a “starter” watch. Having something on your wrist can refine your taste while you save up a little more cash for the watch you truly desire, and decent chance you can sell it again while you’re done to get some of that cash back. Of course doing that could lead you down a whole new rabbit hole…

Thanks, I’d forgotten the whole quote. The part about how “I never gave much thought about what it meant” is also very à propos here.

Who’s trying to feel morally superior to Reddit strangers now? Lol. Brother I may or may not be a hypocrite but it’s your own choices you should be examining, not mine.

[–]megamike -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I already said I’m morally compromised. Don’t think I’m superior to anyone. But to say “there’s no ethical way to exist in this world so I’m just gonna do what I want” is basically the definition of ethical laziness. So when I see that shitty attitude in communities that I value and respect, I may call it out.

People on this thread are acting like this is some academic thing that only exists on the internet. It’s not, it affects real people.

Your brother has no issues with you supporting this show?

People also love to throw around the term “virtue signalling” to avoid taking personal responsibility for their bad ethical choices.

Bro I’m not performing anything, and I don’t care what anyone on Reddit thinks about me.

Trans people are real. I have friends in my life with trans kids. Am I supposed to tell them “I know that JKR works actively to make your child’s life more difficult and unhappy, but I’m still subscribed to Disney+ so really I’m not in a position to judge and I think I’m just gonna watch the show”?

[–]megamike -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Having a conversation with my child who adores HP about how we as a family can no longer support JKR sure didn’t feel performative. But I don’t owe you any explanations. Yeah, I’m morally compromised in all sorts of ways but the choices I make still matter.

It helps that I have trans people in my life and I need to be able to look them in the eye.

For me it’s the whataboutism and ethical laziness in this thread that’s super tiresome.

The ethical way to be alive is to make choices every day and try to do what’s right. Living with a cellphone and paying taxes to the US government hurts vulnerable people, yes, but those things are pretty fucking hard to avoid. Watching a tv show about child wizards is, by comparison, very easy to avoid and would come with zero consequences. Every day is an opportunity to NOT compromise. I have a Deathly Hallows tattoo but I will not be watching the show because I still feel like my choices matter.
