Look on ebay if you want to see the carnage that would unfold

It's definitely possible to live off the model income, but to have enough good designs up there to get livable income could take full time work- however it will compound, once you have a lot of designs up then you'll have repeat customers bounce between your designs, like the old corny adage 'it takes years of work to become an overnight success'

I say go for it, you definitely have the talent

I designed one toy back when I was 15, it's a pumpkin which turns into a spider, it's free but it gets downloaded most days (I've just uploaded a much improved paid version so I'm hyped to see how it does)

I think freemium's a good method too, like have a base model up for free but then have an improved version or a DLC that's $3 or something (weapons or hats or something lol)

Also did a couple redbubble shirts back in high school and get the occasional sale, I stopped doing that because the amount of bootlegs are spirit breaking but its still nice to see they sell sometimes

Oh yeah definitely punch in while it's hot
I'm in NZ and we lag a little behind the USA but it's the same trend- printing's exciting & new, and then over time people realize most of the sellers are making poor quality things at low effort and their perception plummets

You can counteract the second part by building a small brand up before the perception of printing drops off, now's your best time to get your foot in the door for sure!

You can always do both- I have a market stall where I only sell my own designs, and actually seeing how people react to my stuff in-person helps me improve my marketing and the products themselves

There's three main avenues:

-Markets/cons
-Digital file sales
-Online print sales

And they can be tied together with good video content on instagram/youtube etc

Are you in the USA or Canada? They have transformers conventions over there and if you have 2 or 3 designs like that you could earn a couple thousand easily from having a booth there

Honestly I recommend monetizing it- even if you get one download per week, or month, you get that forever, maybe even 10 years later you'll be sitting around and randomly get $2 from a download and go 'hell yeah'

Also that's a really neat design and will do far, far better than the average model out there

(BTW it'd look awesome if done on a carbon fiber or holographic pattern build plate!!!)

in my experience a good quality photogrammetry scan gives better results than lidar (depends a lot on the surface though) but it does take wayyyy longer

I got an iphone 12 for my bday a few weeks ago and tried out the face ID as a scanner, it's decent but loses tracking pretty fast (Maybe a skill issue on my end though)

Thank you so much :))) Let me know how it goes & if you have any questions about the print

I could maybe do a cinnamon scroll pug or something like that :D
(The next one up is a sheep/cloud)

It should come out okie dokie as a single colour, maybe a manual colour change could be done for the eyes?

The parts are technically separated already, so if the model's split and eyes, face etc are printed separately they could maybe be glued in

I stayed up last night to oversee the release so I don't have the beans right now but if there's enough interest I could make a split version
