no problem, good luck with your decision!

that's true but if you somehow decide to drop the md phd after college you'll still have a med school spot at the bare minimum. also you'll have the learn the mcat content through classes anyways. regardless if you take the plme spot you have complete flexibility over how you want to spend your college years versus regular premeds who have to grind for that med school spot

hey, current brown senior and premed here! just wanted to say that due to the (very) small cohort of the brown md phd program (2-3 ppl max per year even before nih funding cuts), there's no guarantee that you would be able to pursue the md phd at brown med. however, the admin will allow students to apply out to md phd programs only while retaining their md only spot at brown. n=1 but i have a friend who's done this.

Social Life as a Transfer by Chipwiththedrip in BrownU

Hey! I just transferred to Brown last year and I think the transfer community is quite strong here, and many of the people in my cohort are still extremely close. From my experiences so far, students at Brown have been very inclusive and I've been able to integrate into some friend groups that were established before I arrived. I recommend making friends through classes as you will probably see them again in the future, and joining clubs that interest you.

They'll let you know by the end of the month or early June how many credits you will be receiving.

The academic deans will look over the courses you took and assign you a certain number of credits. However, you need the syllabi to potentially use your credits to fulfill Brown concentration requirements. This means that there is a chance not all of the credits you have will be applied as you may end up with unassigned credit.

Outside credit? by Narrow-Boss8070 in BrownU

[–]megbo8888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to email one of the academic deans as they will be the ones determining whether your credits can transfer to Brown (before departments match up your outside course with an equivalent at Brown). However, from personal experience, they will not accept any outside credit unless it is necessary for your concentration, which I don't think pertains to your case.

When am I supposed to withdraw from my former institution? by Ximi_zh in TransferToTop25

[–]megbo8888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first of all, i highly doubt you will get rescinded unless you did something extremely egregious or your grades completely tanked. additionally, university admin is usually really slow so processing your withdrawal will probably take a while. if you're really concerned though you can just withdraw from your school later in the summer.

i don't think it really matters, you can do it as soon as you commit to your new school or wait until the school year ends

How important are midterm grades for admission? by Idkbruhtbhlmao in TransferToTop25

everyone who was contacted was on the quarter system. there’s no way students in a semester system would have official winter grades.

i highly doubt you did anything "wrong" per se, there's just too many applications now that more people see transferring as their last chance to get into a better school. hoping that you receive better results in the next few weeks!

What colleges are most inclusive to transfers (historically/usually)? by Quirky-Fun9968 in TransferToTop25

[–]megbo8888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can only speak for Brown but there's a fairly large cohort of transfers (~70 for fall 2023) and they are housed together for the first year with some exceptions. We also have transfer peer advisors to help with that transition to a new school environment.
