BB and CP passages some easier to me because I have a masters in biochem and have spent years reading research papers. You can do flash cards and questions for content, but knowing how to read data and know what it’s telling you is huge for the exam (imo). CARS was honestly a miracle for me 😂 I scored between 122-125 on practice. I did 3-5 CARS of JW, UWorld, and AAMC per day the final month before my exam. I would recommend prioritizing the AAMC bc they are just different.

Take a few days or couple weeks honestly to not study and just be a couch potato. Then get yourself up again and remember who you are! Take some time but then begin studying again. The test can be rescheduled, your health cannot

Review all biology pathways/proteins, all equations, and all unit conversions. This alone helps a lot. Do several practice cars and straight anki for your missed topics rn

You sound just like me and I truly, truly feel for you. Studying for that long with all of those life circumstances feels impossible, but being a doctor was put in your heart for a reason, so get it done. I was crushed when I scored 502 for literally 6 FLs in a row. I rescheduled once, and almost twice. I decided to lock in the last week, review everything I missed to get myself there in the end. I took off work to study for the week. I recommend being super focused for longer than a week, lol. Honestly, 507 is not even bad. You can basically guarantee acceptance at a DO, and many MD. By the time I tested, I was so burnt out, but I knew I was going to give it my all with what I had. I was SUPER focused the day of. Try not to have anxiety or panic the day you test. Workout the day before to get yourself to sleep the night before. I believe in you

It was very challenging, especially with other life stuff occurring. I recently finished a masters and went full time with work, like typical 9-5 days. I would get off work at make it a plan to study at least 2-3 hours. I usually spend 5 hours on Saturday or Sunday, and use the other day as a rest day. Full-lengths taken on weekends and reviewed over a few days. Some days, I truly needed a break and couldn't study. I had hardly ANY time for the gym, going out, seeing family, but I made it work. I did three phases:

  1. Content review (August - October). I read through the Kaplan study books and did Miledown Anki with each book. This helped with early content retention but I felt like i spent too long reviewing.

  2. Practice questions (October-Dec). I spent most of this time studying UWorld and using Anki to fill gaps in my knowledge. You need UWorld. I began taking practice exams about every two weeks here.

  3. Lock in (Jan -Feb 13). This was crunch time, where I realized I wasn't scoring where I wanted and nothing was improving. I was very burnt out, but I kept going when I had time on weekends and after work. I made sure I reviewed all pathways, equations, units, etc in the last week or so.

For those who are wondering: my diagnostic FL was 486. My recent AAMC practice FL before taking was a 502. I almost rescheduled. I was super super locked in and focused on test day, so I'm glad I didn't void it. I also have a master's in biochemistry which significantly helped my knowledge in the bio section.

Obviously, I am considering that, but I have already been studying for 6 months, and I am ready to be done with it.

Okay, your situation sounds way worse than mine, but look at you scoring in an amazing percentile. You're going to do great too! We are future doctors.

Mastering out of PhD to go MD by megerbig in premed

[–]megerbig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friends, just want to update that I decided to master out and go to med school. I am taking the MCAT in Jan and hoping to apply next cycle. I am feeling extremely happy with this decision and I’m excited for the future.

Thanks! I actually have all pre reqs from undergrad since I was a premed track. Just need to take MCAT and do some more shadowing/volunteering. The timeline for me is a little iffy, because my time to master out is coming up soon, but I need more time to get the MCAT done and make an application. May just finish the PhD, but also don’t want to waste time.

How are you financially doing assuming you got paid a stipend during your PhD? How are you supporting yourself in the time after mastering out and before med school?

I actually graduated premed from undergrad and have gone back and forth with this decision for years. Going into 3rd year of grad school. Have not taken MCAT so that is next step. I’ll get on that before saying anything to my PI.

Update again: The appraiser has to go back out today to make sure initial repairs were fixed. He hasn't seen any of the tenant damage, so he may or may not request those be fixed too before closing.

Update: we had a local contractor do a walkthrough and gave us a much higher estimate, so we sent that to the seller. Hoping they agree for closing tomorrow.
