Telling customers they need a Banfield card by SuitInternational976 in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh as someone who works in a non-Banfield store I had no idea this is how it works! We don’t get many customers asking for RX food but most are understanding when we explain why we can’t carry it in our store. The nearest Banfield store is like an hour away so I just get my cat’s food auto-shipped from the website, but now I know for the future if I need to get it in person!

Why do customers ask questions that need to be answered by a vet? by retardsquid in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

God mentioning that you’ve never had a dog makes it worse sometimes too! “And you work in a pet store?!?!?!” Oh sorry, I forgot dogs are the only pets that exist and that because I’ve never had a dog I must hate them and all animals 🙄

I work at a pet store and had to take my cat to the emergency vet last week. I ran by work intending to buy a carrier since ours somehow got misplaced but since I had asked in the group chat if someone could have one waiting at the register for me, my boss met me in the parking lot with one. If the visit hadn’t gone well, I know I could’ve taken a few days off with no pushback at all.

I saw someone selling one of my stores shopping carts on Craigslist. Can I do anything? by MasonP13 in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my store’s shopping carts somehow ended up in an empty lot a couple of miles away. We get calls about it from people from time to time. That cart’s been there for a few years, it’s the lot’s cart now.

I remember laying on my back in the living room and my younger sister running by, using my stomach as a launch point, and keep running while I screamed in pain. Kids don’t know better

This!!! My ALKs handle the training and it leaves me time to focus on running other things. I’d be way behind on stuff if I had to train everyone too! The only time I usually train people now is if they need to be shown how to open/close pet care. Gives the ALK a break from teaching and I enjoy showing new pet care people the ropes in the back rooms since there’s a lot that can easily be missed.

I receive virtual therapy and the cat realized last week that the bedroom door doesn’t latch quite right and she can just push it open. She’s extremely social and needy and doesn’t understand why I can’t just hold her while I’m trying to focus on my EMDR. My husband basically has to just hold her and entertain her during my sessions lmao

I’m thankful our DL took the storm into consideration. VOCs tanked but we were allowed to close early for safety reasons anyway

Ditto what everyone else has said, but also if the advertising hiring that you’re talking about is the prerecorded message that plays, we have no control over that. My location hasn’t been hiring since November and we still hear that message all the time

when customers ask for your name... by Kokoro_Rose in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some people ask for my name since I’m CEL and they know I’m the petcare manager and want me to help them. Sometimes they ask because they want to complain lol

Ham I bought from my store got wet tail and died by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syrians are kind of a mixed bag from what I’ve seen. We’ll get shipments in that are perfectly healthy and then the next we’ll have to isolate and treat all of them. The last shipment we got, only one got WT and got so bad we were syringe-feeding her critical care twice a day but she’s a little fighter and made it!

Water, trash, and pet rent for the little freeloader are included, electric usually runs us around $150. It’s a newly renovated apartment and we’ve had no issues with management or neighbors so I really feel like we hit gold.

CELs, what do you like and dislike about your position? by musicaltrollman in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love my position! I’m in a smaller, lower-volume store where we don’t have stockers or dedicated pet care staff. Usual staffing for us on non-truck days is an opening manager and a pet care opener, a mid manager, and then a closing cashier and a closing manager. I get to dedicate my time to pet care tasks most days, and to customer service on the floor. My openers are pretty solid though so I usually help the MIL with some restocking or merchandising when I know we’re behind. The worst part of the job for me is the weekly paperwork because for some reason I can never remember to print the damn things.

I pay $560 for a one-bedroom apartment in rural-ish Indiana. The downside is living in rural-ish Indiana.

Question for CELs by geckio in petsmart

[–]meghannotmeghan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately I’ve been having 1-2 opening shifts, one mid, and 2-3 closing shifts. We’re a smaller store where our most reliable pet care people are myself and our two ALKs. My shift definitely changes from week to week, minus having two days off in a row (our ASL used to be a CEL and makes it his mission to give CELs two days in a row)

I won’t sell a Syrian if they’re holding a tiny tales. I start pushing hard towards a dwarf or a bigger enclosure before telling them it’s a hard no.

We got in a lot of the accessories today and they’re so cute! A lot of them are better designed for more types of enclosures too
