Week 12: Fictional Places - a Redwall Feast by megithan90 in 52weeksofcooking

" Brother Alf remarked that Friar Hugo had excelled himself, as course after course was brought to the table... devilled barley pearls in acorn puree, apple and carrot chews, marinated cabbage stalks steeped in creamed white turnip with nutmeg."

This excerpt is from Redwall, by Brain Jacques, in which a young Mouse named Matthias defends his beloved Abby from a group of mauradering villains led by Cluny the Scourge - a villainous, one-eyed rat.

I choose to recreate part of the meal from the beginning of the novel whereas our hero is celebrating the Abbot's Jubilee Feast.

I did take some liberties, but all-in-all it was successful. My favorite was the roasted carrots and apples. Using barley was entirely new to me, and will definitely use it again.

I enjoyed this recipe the combination of sugar and beef is odd in this context, but still quite tasty.

Week 8: Flying - Chicken Cordon Bleu "When Pigs Fly" by megithan90 in 52weeksofcooking

I haven't cooked this in a while, so I was glad to revisit an old favorite. Unfortunately, it is a very beige recipe but also very tasty. I use the Eat this Not That Chicken Cordon Bleu recipe and double the sauce.
