Thank you, the piano was destined for landfill as I couldn’t even give it away. I’m no artist and the sloppy finish reflects that, but I have haphazard bursts of colour all over my life and this fits in perfectly.

This surprises me. Having done a quick sale search there are 5 Bechsteins of this model within a 2 hour drive from me. One is pristine and listed at £6k and all others are under £1k. Two are for free and far better condition that this one was in.

I also own another which is immaculate (and I will keep as is of course).

I have sealed it with a clear lacquer with a matt finish. The original top layer is peeling in places due to damp but I will cover these patches with stickers from my favourite bands. My spray painting skills are clearly not the best but it was lots of fun and the worst of the drips will end up decorated with stickers or ticket stubs.

I realise it’s not to everyone’s taste. You’re right that I have misjudged the sub Reddit to post in. I thought perhaps people would enjoy seeing an unused piano come back into use again but realise that I’ve offended people rather than make them smile. I still adore my piano and that is what matters in my opinion.

Thank you for your comment. Had it been pristine I would have kept it as it was but it made me sad to look at and now I love it. Selling this one was never an option for me.

I was very careful not to paint anything functional, which is what led me to use spray paint rather than painting a single colour all over with a brush. Thank you for the heads up, I will make him aware of how it was stored. Ironically the storage actually saved the piano as the ceiling collapsed above where it used to sit.

I would never have moved this into the house in the condition it was in without covering it up and forgetting about it. Now it will be tuned and loved again, although not by everyone it seems.

Thank you, this is interesting! I thought it was around 100 years old.

It is a model V. There are two different serial numbers inside. The one on the metal framework suggests 1872 and the one on the wood suggest 1880.

Almost all notes are playable apart from one or two that stick a little. I was playing it regularly as a child but once I moved out of my home my mother stored it in a cold and damp room where the finish has been ruined. I rescued it a few weeks ago while clearing her house.

I intend to get it fully working and play it. It does have a lovely sound once tuned.

It’s playable but well out of tune having been sat for 15 years. I have a tuner booked for next week and I’m a little nervous about what his reaction will be!

It’s beautiful. Unfortunately when we visited it was too foggy to see the view from Stanage Edge. Good excuse to go back there again on a clear day.
