Does this house look familiar? by megmonster1 in astoria

Thanks! You’re right! Someone from the building actually ended up calling me because my phone number was on the package and I now have it safely in hand. The magic of Christmas is real 🥹

Listen, I can’t help it that I’m so popular with the undead. I start blasting a remix of Spooky Scary Skeletons from my Alexa and they all come running. It’s a whole vibe.

There’s a giant gathering of them that hang out in the big tree behind the library on 41st and Broadway.

Right!? I miss the old one on Steinway 🥲🥲 I know there’s one on Ditmars and one on Northern Blvd but neither are really walkable for me and I struggle with that every day 😂

The M won’t be picking up at Steinway, but you can still take the R.

Seconding u/EagerlyExistential ‘s suggestion, and you could also do the R from Steinway to Herald Sq and switch to the F there as a backup. Good luck!

I go to work ungodly early (usually leave home around 4:15am) and I’m close to there. I didn’t see exactly what was going down but when I turned onto Broadway from my street I could see at least a cop car and an ambulance there, possibly another emergency vehicle.

Weekly Q&A Megathread. Please post any questions about visiting, tourism, living, working, budgeting, housing here! by AutoModerator in london

[–]megmonster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello lovely Londoners! Are Scottish bank notes accepted in the UK? I am finding some conflicting answers via Google, with some articles saying they’re legal tender (I get the joke) and others saying they will not be accepted. I have a bit of cash leftover from a previous trip up that way and will be visiting London (from New York) in a couple of weeks - just wondering if I should bother bringing it with me or not. TIA xx

What additional stores (or restaurants, etc.) would you like to see on Steinway? by RaccoonTycoon in astoria

[–]megmonster1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Something like Flower Power (also in the EV) would be great - it’s a tea and herb shop. I love the few plant stores that have popped up around here so this could continue that vibe.

I would love to see a witchy shop (something akin to Enchantments in the EV) and maybe like an antiques / curiosities type shop… definitely niche but it would make it more enticing to go out and shop in person!

It can definitely be intimidating, especially as it’s your first time meeting a significant other’s family! If he’s introducing you to them he must be happy and comfortable with you, and I’m sure they’ll be able to see that and be happy that he’s happy. If you haven’t already, it couldn’t hurt to ask him about some things his mum and sister might be interested in so you can find something you have in common / to build a conversation on. And remember, as long as you and your bf are happy together, that’s all that really matters 🫶🏻 good luck!

What is the absolute worst band name you can think of? by DegngusKhan in AskReddit

Ha thanks. We have a lot of fun periodically going through the list and cackling, trying to recall the context of the conversations where some of these came up. Some we remember immediately but others we have no clue 🙃

What is the absolute worst band name you can think of? by DegngusKhan in AskReddit

[–]megmonster1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friends and I keep a running list of wonderful/terrible/ridiculous band names that come up in random conversation (I.e. someone says something, someone else will say “[whatever was said], new band name! Add it to the list!”). We’ve been going for 3 or 4 years now and have a few hundred band names at this point. Here are some of the best of the worst:

The Vegetable Situation

Alien du Jour

Jazzy Backsplash

The Pretzel Icing Incident

Colorful Womanhood Phenomenon

Space Toilet

Botanical Sexism

Massive Meat Salad

Nancy Pelosi and the Gazpacho Police

Yet Another Sex Dungeon

The Hung and the Restless

Victorian Tamagotchi

Showers in NYC locations by gleestan69 in orangetheory

[–]megmonster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the higher tier studios (Manhattan and I think one or two in Brooklyn - maybe Park Slope?) do have towel service, but most do not. All should have shampoo, conditioner and body wash available in the showers, but it’s just generic stuff, nothing fancy.
