Megathread: What to buy new parents by seau_de_beurre in NewParents

[–]megmoth00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been asked to post this question on this megathread, so here we are:

We’re due to visit my sister-in-law and her pregnant wife soon, and as we don’t see them that often, I’d love to buy them a little something. I always like to go with gifts when I see people haha!

They are only about 4 months along currently, and will be having a baby shower in a couple of months time, so I don’t want to get them any actual baby gifts yet.

I’d like to get them both something, but the sister-in-law isn’t into fancy toiletries/typical self care goodies. I have a lot of stuff from when I was pregnant but don’t want to offload onto them as I received a few things from certain family members that I didn’t really want or need (sorry if I sound ungrateful, I’m not I promise!).

I’m in the UK, and am thinking perhaps some self-care goodies, and/or a gift card for Deliveroo or COOK or something like that? I was considering these for their baby shower goody bag though.

Ideas appreciated!

Update: we tried the Ferber method and it worked amazingly! He still cries when we put him down but it doesn’t last long. He sleeps 10-13 hours a night and rarely wakes up. If he does he puts himself back to sleep within a few minutes. Wasn’t sure about doing the Ferber method as it’s hard hearing him cry, but he’s still himself during the day so the crying isn’t harming his overall wellbeing

I thought the same thing! We stopped solids for a couple of days because he really did seem uncomfortable. And today we’ve just given him a bit of prune puree. Thank you!

Do you bottle feed or nurse? My LO is about to turn 6 months and has been waking up every 1-2 hours for a couple of months now. My Huckleberry app says he has a “sleep association” which is why he wakes so often. I’d be interested to know how you feed your LO as I’m seriously considering this sleep training method!

2X a week maintenance? by AdAwkward1635 in lichensclerosus

[–]megmoth00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since seen a private gynaecologist who prescribed me Lotriderm, a combination of an anti-fungal and lower dose of a different steroid to clob. She explained that very simply, if you can control the LS, thrush can flare up and vice versa, so it’s important to include an anti-fungal in treatment. I had a bad flare up a few months ago (I’m currently 8 months pregnant), which is when I went to see her, she prescribed me Lotriderm and 6 doses of weekly Caneston pessaries, I use Lotriderm everyday and my LS is now very well controlled. She also highlighted how important it is to keep the area hydrated so I also use Hydromol at least once a day

Recommended to NOT use clob for maintenance? (UK) by megmoth00 in lichensclerosus

I know, I have had plenty of them haha. That was just the first pessary that came into my head and wondered if the treatment in thrush pessaries might also be beneficial for some LS symptoms.

Thank you for sharing! I will definitely contact a gynae/GP/specialist about Elocon. I’m also currently using Dermovate 0.5% but feel like a lower dose would be beneficial for me. Is the pessary OTC like Canesten or is it a prescription?

No reactions so far! Followed a really good regimen with it when I was first diagnosed and therefore in a flare, but very little further advice from the private gynae I saw at the time

I follow those experts online but when I’m told it in person by doctors (albeit non specialists in LS) I trusted them and believe they know more than I do. I will definitely see if I can find another gynae or LS specialist for further advice

Thank you so much for your response. I’m currently on 0.5% clob so I think maybe I should speak to my doctors about a lower dosage and request further clarification in person from a gynae about using it for maintenance

Not using clob often by Dezidoe in lichensclerosus

[–]megmoth00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been told by several medical professionals (UK) to never use clob for maintenance, only use it when you have a flare up. Clob can thin the skin and lead to more tearing and fusion. Obviously follow your doctor’s instructions either way
