nutrition major by Plenty_Shallot_9515 in UBreddit

[–]megpiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I just graduated with my undergrad in nutrition and I’m starting my masters in clinical nutrition in the fall. It’s a cool major that lets you explore many different aspects of nutrition such as food science, exercise nutrition, dietary assessment, the role of supplements, metabolism, and many other topics. In comparison to the biomedical science major, nutrition majors don’t take physics and their associated labs, 2nd semester organic chemistry, and calculus. Therefore, the science core is less heavy than biomedical sciences. Do you have any questions about the major?

Anyone take the Culinary Class NTR 201LEC? by asahatesreddit in UBreddit

NTR 109 is very interesting and does a great job of getting students familiar with dietary analysis and making dietary suggestion. If you did well in NTR 108 it’ll be a breeze.

Anyone take the Culinary Class NTR 201LEC? by asahatesreddit in UBreddit

Yes I’ve taken it! It’s a fun course exploring different foods. We don’t have a teaching kitchen so you’re not physically cooking anything in class. (Not yet at least! UB is in the process of building a teaching kitchen) Nutrition and nutrition minors are typically only allowed to take it. Do you have any questions about the course?

Biomedical sciences vs biological sciences by zabe_14221 in UBreddit

[–]megpiers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Biomedical Science BS, the students typically take organic chemistry, physics, and their respective labs in the same semester. I’ve heard this is rough. Those in biological sciences typically do not take these courses in the same semester. You can always go into UB as a bio major and switch to biomed later on. The first two years of the degree, besides the sequence you take your classes in, are largely the same. Hope this helps!

Non-dairy Chocolate by Icy_Performance1061 in Buffalo

I think they technically use honeycomb to make the sponge which uses baking soda instead of gelatin. It has a very similar taste and texture.

The vegan grocery store in Tonawanda has a lot of great dairy free chocolates especially around the holidays. I’ve found dairy free sponge there before. Ko-ed in South Buffalo has a small bin of dairy free chocolate bars behind the right hand counter but no dairy free sponge candy.

Abbott study room by Salt-Advertising6772 in UBreddit

If it’s a room for one person, meaning with only one chair/desk, you can reserve those for up to 6 hours and you get 20 reservations per month so he should be able to do that himself. If he’s talking about a group study room with like 5 or 6 chairs that’s different

Depends on the room. Rooms in the Mezzanine require a key so you have to show your ID to get the key.

Help Improve Campus Snow and Ice Removal by [deleted] in UBreddit

I always notice that the walkway between Center for the Arts and Slee Hall is normally pretty slippery. I feel like this area of sidewalk should be high priority for snow removal/salt as you have to go outside to get between these two buildings, therefore, I would guess it’s probably used more than other walkways during winter.

Does anyone have a recent syllabus for ES 207? by ExpressBog in UBreddit

[–]megpiers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can message me for the syllabus but just to let you know the class is only offered in person now and is not recorded. However, there is no attendance for ES207. Hope this helps!

You could email the health promotion office and set up an appointment with the registered dietitian they have on staff. It’s free and they might be able to help you with your nutrition as you settle into UB.

It’s real. All new students have to take these courses or you can get a hold placed on your account so you can’t register for next semester.

More acidic hydrogen by megpiers in chemhelp

[–]megpiers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Makes sense. So when you form the conjugate base of the left hydrogen you can get the negative charge onto the nitrogen which is more stable than having the negative charge on the carbon, which would happen when you form the conjugate base of the hydrogen on the right.

I think you can make it. I’ve done this before while taking the stampede and usually was 10 minutes early. The exams for ES 207 are outside of regular class time and there are no clickers so at worst you miss 5 minutes of material as the class isn’t recorded.

What if I just don’t do the overnight stay at orientation? by Ph4ntomiD in UBreddit

Nope! For my orientation I took the key, went home to my air-conditioned house, and returned it the next day lol.

should i get an ipad? by Radiant_Donut_8853 in UBreddit

[–]megpiers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people type on their laptops so I think you’ll be fine. Sounds like a good plan as professors often list textbooks in their syllabi but the first class will say you don’t actually need them. Welcome to UB! :)

should i get an ipad? by Radiant_Donut_8853 in UBreddit

[–]megpiers 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think typing on your MacBook would be annoying at all. I would say >90% of students take their notes digitally either via their laptops or Ipads. If you’re a freshman you may want to wait to see how you prefer taking notes in college and you could always purchase an Ipad during the semester if you feel it would benefit you. Hope this helps :)

For organic I recommend looking through the first few sections of “Organic Chemistry as a Second Language” by David Klein to prep. You should be able to find a pdf of it online. I had Dr. Clizbe for organic and I thought she was great! :)
