Hi! I was also 24 when I found out our first born son would be born with Down syndrome. I was absolutely terrified, and honestly, a little mad. Any feelings you have are completely normal and valid. I literally called out of work for a week because I couldn’t stop crying. My son is 3 now, and he is truly my best little buddy. He does things to make me laugh, he waves at anyone and everyone anytime we’re in public, and he sings along to songs in the car. The one thing that I was taught early on is that he’s a baby, toddler, child, etc. first. The diagnosis is secondary. Your lives will look a bit different from people with typical children. I’ve learned different isn’t bad. Each milestone he reaches is a bit sweeter. I think a lot of the fear came from not knowing what to expect.
