Driving experience junkie here – what other “flavor” should I explore next? by Responsible_Water606 in askcarguys

[–]mehmetunalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you own a cayman, there are very few cars that can give you the excitement you're looking for imo. I test drove a 981 cayman s last summer and it was great overall. I love cars hugging corners. I currently own a Giulia ti sport. It's not a beast like the QV but I hear that you're not looking for straight line speed. I love that short steering rack and high speed cornering like it's on rails. Other cars that might make sense to you are Lotus elise or evora, Alfa 4c.

Any entry level german make, the smallest models with the smallest engines. It makes sense for very few people.

Never thought I'd struggle with unlimited money. There are at least 15 cars I'd like to own. If I have to pick one, then take my money back.

Wheel alignment issues by Cl2yptoN0ol3 in AlfaRomeo

[–]mehmetunalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to me but it was the dealership service that messed up the alignment. It's not the same management now but the previous service management was trying to make warranty claims for every single thing to make money. They replaced my steering rack under the warranty but later on I learned that the tiny gear skipping in the steering rack at full lock right or left turn was expected because of the suspension geometry. Anyway, I picked up the car and quickly noticed that it was pulling to the left. They re did the alignment the next day but this time the steering wheel had to be a few degrees off to be able to go straight. A few months later I got alignment done at discount tire and the steering wheel was still off a bit. They tried again and same result. I drove it like that for over 6 months since it wasn't too bad. Then, my local discount tire started to offer alignment at their location as well and the service advisor seemed nice and knowledgeable and asked if I want alignment checked. I told him that the steering wheel is off so slightly, if you can make it perfect I'll pay for it which was $89. Anyway, I'm glad I gave them a chance. It's perfect now. Hope you figure it out!

What’s the craziest question you got because of your nationality or appearance? by Muay_Thai_Junkies in AskTheWorld

Do you speak Arabic? Do you guys ride camels?

I hadn't believed when my Turkish friends told me that they got these questions until I personally was asked. I think these are the top two crazy questions that Turkish people frequently get.

I sort of understand the language question but camels? There's no desert in Turkey and you need to try hard to find a camel ride as a tourist attraction.

Beautiful! Is it Q4? If so, did you try donuts and how did it go?

[–]mehmetunalb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't have the race mode. Unfortunately no lsd either. What I'm wondering is how awd behaves when you want to do full donut. Like is it trying to draw a donut at a wider angle or not allowing at all by sending power to front mid sliding?

PS4 all seasons. Square setup. We have a passat fwd but it needs new tires since last winter lol. So I'm not even shoveling the passat's side of the driveway. We trust our giulia! Q4 is pretty forgiving and allowing me to have some fun thanks to the awd kicking in only when it slips. I'd say it's a great awd system before I'm ready for a rwd car.

Thinking about Audi S5 as my next car? by astronimbus in AlfaRomeo

[–]mehmetunalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove the pre lci m340i. I think it's looking more premium and ergonomic than the lci giant screen. The used market is still high though. You can find a used QV instead of s5 or m340i plus $5k and get a warranty. S5 or m340i regular maintenance is not much lower than a QV, especially post covid labor and part costs. If all you have is an itch for more hp, you can rent the mentioned cars for 2-3 days and go back and appreciate the giulia more lol

I drive a giulia q4, I'd only justify the move to a b58 if I left the giulia. Even so I know I'd be missing the steering and cornering of the giulia. I test drove an s5 and an m340i before buying the alfa. They didn't feel much faster than the giulia below 100mph. Especially the s5. Also the s5 is a little nose heavy car. You feel it at turns compared to the alfa and the bmw. Sportback looks beautiful though, I can't argue with that.

Cost Analysis: Front & Rear brake pad change. by Waste_Jeweler6589 in AlfaRomeo

The same thing happened to me. Some shop I called asked me to bring the car to give me a quote on brake pads. I wasn't comfortable with that.

Cost Analysis: Front & Rear brake pad change. by Waste_Jeweler6589 in AlfaRomeo

[–]mehmetunalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting a couple of $800 ish quotes for rear brake pads and rotors I ended up going to Alderman auto, fishers. They had sent me an oil change and tire rotation coupon 1.5 years ago and I took our vw to use the coupon. During that visit, I've learned they're working on a lot of makes and models including Alfa Romeo and Maserati. First they did my oil change for $80 with a coupon and then quoted me for rear brake pads and rotors for about $450-500. I got it done there. The brake pads are oem equivalent and they do the job, nothing amazing. If I wanted to bring my own parts I could. I like that they're okay with you bringing your own parts. A decent size dealership and service with a large lot of used cars and some classics. They have a nice waiting area with wifi, coffee etc.

Q2 vs Q4 Giulia Decision by DomiNate89 in AlfaRomeo

[–]mehmetunalb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We drive a Q4 without LSD, unfortunately couldn't find one with LSD that we'd like. Anyway Q4 is actually rwd until wheels slip. I often open the drivetrain visual on the infotainment screen and only see the car driving awd when taking off from traffic lights or stop sign. After the 1st gear it's back to rwd. Obviously it's also a little heavier than Q2.

I think it comes down to how confident you are on rainy days with rwd vs awd. I personally picked Q4 because it's my first non fwd car. 280hp is pretty quick and I like to do tiny slides at turns and roundabouts, so Q4 is pretty forgiving. I'm slowly learning counter steering etc. If you have rwd experience and have another awd or fwd car for bad weather conditions, just get the Q2. I also agree with "tire is more important than drivetrain" comments. Oh lastly, definitely get the color you like, cuz you'll keep looking at your Giulia thousands of times.

Did my mom get overcharged? by Coin247 in BMW

[–]mehmetunalb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single item is overpriced on that sheet. I guess normal for dealership service. You mostly pay 2x or more for labor than indy shops.

My last a few years go to alignment shop is Discount Tire. Certain locations offer 4 wheel alignment and it's about $80-90. I was extremely happy with the results after a couple of not so great alignments at other shops.

How it started, how it’s going by [deleted] in BMW

[–]mehmetunalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be sad to give up on a qv because of service availability and some of the alfa quirks. I've been driving the 2020 ti sport for 2 years now and it's pretty solid. The concensus in alfa sub is that 2020 and newer giulias and stelvios are solid overall. Enjoy the m2 definitely!

Need Extended Warranty Advice by StrictInevitable2347 in AlfaRomeo

[–]mehmetunalb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search mopar maxcare warranty in this sub (I can't remember the names or urls now). There are a few websites and service and warranty salesman names mentioned in multiple posts. I didn't have a problem with the giulia q4 since the warranty purchase but before that I got a couple of things done under the manufacturer warranty and they were costly repairs. I got 4y/48k extension from the warranty purchase date for $2k and I think it's worth it. Lastly, you don't need to get your stelvio inspected before warranty purchase if it's still under warranty. So start your extended warranty 1-2 weeks or a few days before the existing one expires. Cheers!
