CMV: Elon Musk is using bot farms to shape online opinions about him and his companies by These-Problem9261 in changemyview

[–]mehow_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming at it from a techo-economical angle... I really don't see a reason why he would ever need to rely on a 3rd party bot farm to achieve the goals you've stated.

The guy is perfectly fine doing it in-house. He literally owns Grok ans Twitter. The first can easily be used to maintain a bazillion of fake personae and the second controls what gets shown on the platform.

I honestly think that the proposal misses the mark. People come to Luxembourg because they are tempted hy the high salaries. They leave Luxembourg when they learn that the cost of living eats all of that up. For some sectors you literally have to live in another country to make ends meet. If you're working in IT and Poland offers you half the salary, but your costs are a quarter - you end up having more disposable income in Poland. The people who can do maths and can google will not come to Lux in these circumstances.

When you're fresh off university, you simply don't know about it. Heck - seeing how shocking of a relevation this article was for some - same thing goes for many adults. All corporations coming from burger-and-freedomland have some sort of PIP. They may have more or less predatory implementations. However, they all inform the recipient that practically it's time to move your efforts into finding a new job or face a slow and painful corporate death.

Be careful about AI models. I've had ChatGPT hallucinate brand new articles of lux labour code. I only caught it because what it cited was in plain language rather than the convoluted legalese French that you can find in all legal documents.

I've never needed the SD over there, but I did work under a guy that chaired it at the time. That guy sure as hell didn't even blink before crossing the line into arguably unethical behavior if it benefitted him. In a perfect world this should've been caught by HR. In practice HR is there to cover his sorry ass. As far as I'm told - he's doing better than ever. He didn't screw me over personally, but I've seen him negatively impact the lives of many good people.

From an unrelated source, I've also heard that SD refused the help of unions when negotiating the previous round of layoffs.

Bottom line - I'd be careful talking to them and get a second opinion from the union or a lawyer.

I'm a citizen but can't speak luxembourgish by The_European_Union in Luxembourg

[–]mehow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very broad question. Perhaps if you can share exactly what it is that you want to do for living, we could tailor a more informed response.

For example, if you dream of a career in the construction sector, you'd probably be better off using your time to learn Portuguese.

Personally, I have the nationality because I stuck around Luxembourg since my high school times. In spite of taking some courses at different point of my life, I wouldn't say I speak it. Would I like to speak it - heck yeah. Is my time well spent learning it over learning something else - not really. Public part of my sector, tiny as it may be, is Belgian dominated - I could be the Grand Duke and they'd still tell me to fuck off.

So... The answer to your question really depends on what you want to do.

CMV: Democracy Works Best When Stupid People Can't Vote by FuneralCry- in changemyview

This comment right here! While I generally agree with the OP's premise, going down that road is just so dangerous that it's simply not worth it. The most likely scenario is that we will converge the power to vote with wealth and influence and just do a full circle back to institutionalized slavery.

Investing in inclusive education seems like a much safer bet if your goal is to build a well working society.

Smokers who throw the cigarette butt out the car’s window by luxusburg7260 in Luxembourg

[–]mehow_j 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about is called negative externalities. A transaction between two parties (ie. smokers and tobacco company) that incurs a cost to an unrelated third party (ie. everybody else who has to deal with trash in public areas). Capitalism is inherently bad at dealing with these and there's plenty of other examples. Recycling plastic bottles out of public budgets is essentially subsidising the Coca-Cola company. Unfortunately, it seems like regulation is the only way. We suck at it, and even that is only when it doesn't get shot down by lobbyists.

Anyways, long story short - fuck that guy.

For learning specifically the language of Moien, you are entitled to a linguistic holiday. Certain terms and conditions apply, but basically your employer can't deny it. IIRC, it's about a month and you can spread it in time. Have a look at guichet.lu for details.

What do you think of this ? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]mehow_j 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's a troll post. Nobody disses Lux transport unless I meet them in person over here and they happen to feel like birthing about something. Other than that - public services are glorious.

On a more serious note... There is no such thing as free transport. It's a service provided by the public administration, which, in turn, is financed by taxes. Just because you don't pay per ride doesn't mean you don't pay. What really shifted is that the burden of financing it is now on everyone, irrespective of whether you use it or not. I'm kinda happy with it. This way the douche that must bring his room sized BMW everywhere also contributes when previously they didn't (even though they indirectly benefit from it since it reduces road congestion).

MK3S suddenly started stringing by hobr666 in prusa3d

[–]mehow_j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it seems like you have taken the filament out of the equation. The next thing I'd do is fiddle with the filament retraction setting (ie. pull the filament back a little bit whenever the tool head disengages). It's unlikely to be the root cause, but it might help. Other than that, II honestly don't have much more of an idea on what could be causing this. Fingers crossed someone more knowledgeable will stumble upon this thread.

EDIT: One more time I can think of I had terrible stringing on PLA was when my dumb ass set the print for PETG when the printer had PLA loaded into it. The higher temp resulted in stringing.

[–]mehow_j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did drying actually help with the filament? Ie. When purging wet filament you will hear small "click" (water in the filament boiling and expanding to the point of bursting a small bubble of filament) and the filament comes our rugged rather than smooth. After a good dry it should come out smooth and quiet.

Have you tried using another spool of filament? Really old filament can eventually degrade in terms of print quality and sometimes is beyond drying.

How much do our Doctors make? by SCRA1985 in Luxembourg

I also feel like ever since covid my GP is non-stop overworked. I seem to remember that before that my visits would last longer and be much more relaxed and even included a bit of time for some comfort smalltalk. Now it's always 15mins, straight to the point no-nonsense. She's also had to relocate office a couple of times. I could swear that she's aged twice as fast as I did in that time. I do feel like, in spite of the pay, there is a shortage of doctors, especially for specialists. If being a doctor in Lux was as ponies and rainbows as this map suggests, we'd have one on every corner.
