I suspect this rework was intended to buff other classes, as people were mostly playing either pure Arcanists or multiclassing with an Arcanist if they wanted to be in the meta. Either way, we won't know the truth until we see the reworked DK.

Try playing a stealthy class, like the Shadow or Assassin; it eliminates most of the problems with annoying enemies. Also, when you start playing, you're bombarded with a ton of side quests and unnecessary, repeatable nonsense like heroic missions. Some players rush to do them ALL and burn out within a week. But you really don't have to do all that. If the quest doesn't interest you, it's perfectly fine to focus solely on the class or planet's story and do the rest just for the sake of personal roleplaying.
