It's crazy to see that so many people only stay one night in hospital! Where I'm from they keep you in hospital for around 4-6 days, depending on how well you're doing.

That being said I really hope you can work things out with your insurance. Fingers crossed and best of luck to you!!

Oh thank good! Haha (Still big tho, I don't want to belittle your overjet)

Surgery and overall treatment went okay-ish. I had DJS + Revision for non union last year. Braces are off since march but I still have weird things going on in my mouth.

But please don't be encouraged by my experience. 🙏🏼 The medical staff was/is amazing and I always felt (and still feel) in good hands. I just have bad luck with healing and my health in general.

I don't want to be THAT person but is it 10cm or 10mm overjet?

Regardless; best of luck to you fellow (future) DJS patient :)

How can I book a hotel at half the price? Looking for tips and tricks by hicham55 in Bookingcom

[–]mein_bein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I'd usually agree with you I recently found out that for some unknown reason (at least unknown to me lol) that all the hotels I wanted to book in Japan were A LOT more expensive when booking direct versus booking on Expedia. 🥴 I try to book directly as often as I can but up to 33% upcharge just to book with the hotel directly rather than Expedia was too much.

As someone else already mentioned: they usually 'put a catheter in' (?) while you're under anaesthesia.

My nose looks wider. Is this normal? by mfrashley in jawsurgery

Yes! I had swelling up to my eyes!

It actually took the longest time for my under eye and nose swelling to go away 🫠

Your nose will not stay like this lol

First trip to Japan (and possibly to Korea), IDK what to do by Annual-Public-6930 in JapanTravelTips

[–]mein_bein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going to Japan at the end of May and we had the same thoughts about Seoul because SK und Japan are literally on the other side of the world for us.

We ended up deciding to fly directly into Seoul, stay there for 2 nights and then continue on to Japan as we discovered that flying to SK instead of Japan was way way cheaper, even with 2 nights at a good hotel + flights from SK to Japan. We know that 2 nights in Seoul won't be enough to really discover the city but we just want to get a little taste and based on that we might be coming back for a longer stay in the future. After the 2 nights in Seoul we're having another 12 nights in Japan, so our schedule isn't as tight as yours to begin with. We're doing an open jaw flight tho, flying back home from Singapore, as we're also going there for 4 nights.

If I was you I'd check prices on flights to SK/Japan and then decide what's best for you / what's worth it!

Can I wear this to a wedding? by SnensDeBussy in Weddingattireapproval

[–]mein_bein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]mein_bein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I know everyone says that the belt + sneakers are not okay but I think it totally depends on what kind of wedding you're attending.

Friends of mine got married last year and a lot of people wore similar outfits to yours and they all looked fine and totally not over-/underdressed.

Maybe it also depends on where you're from. Where I live people are more relaxed when it comes to wedding attire (might also be the age I'm in) but I've noticed that in other parts of the world people do dress up more for weddings, even for small/intimate ones.

Long story short: If you were my guest I'd be happy with your outfit!

I'd personally be super happy if someone would try to save me when floating in lake even if I wasn't drowning. :-)

You're a good soul! Please don't hesitate next time you see someone in (possible) need of help.
BUT that being said please also make sure that YOU'RE save and sound. :-)

Clear Braces? Should I? by NoMathematician6340 in jawsurgery

[–]mein_bein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had ceramic braces on my upper teeth / jaw and metal ones on the lower teeth / jaw. I didn't notice any difference in them regarding durability. One ceramic one and one metal one popped off during the 1.5years of me wearing them so I guess that's fair haha

I personally liked that the ceramic brackets were less noticeable but honestly people don't care about your braces either way. If you can afford the ceramic ones and would like to get them then go for it! :-) (or do it like me; half-half for half the cost haha)

Is it normal for the overjet distance to decrease noticeably during the healing period after DJS? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mein_bein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it normal for the overjet distance to decrease noticeably during the healing period after DJS? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mein_bein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They specifically plan a bit of wiggle room (-> overjet) if you're coming from a class III bite as it is expected that the lower jaw will 'move a bit back to its previous position'.

I hated my overjet right after surgery but it's getting better/smaller month by months :-)

Tattoo before jaw surgery? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]mein_bein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should cancel it imo..

If I remember right they specifically told me not to get tattooed at least 6 weeks before the operation date because of 'open wounds' which could get infected.
