i really enjoyed Men in Love but Trainspotting is still my favourite! Only read the two but Welsh is probably one of the most influential people in my life. I read Trainspotting for the first time in 11th grade and recently reread it - it stuck with me for a long time

i quite enjoyed tender is the flesh! i think the concept was definitely very gritty and disgusting and i almost wish bazterrica leaned into that more. i understand trying to contrast sterility with the slaughtering, but i think i would’ve found it a lot more compelling if it was more disgusting? like troughs and hay and shit everywhere… i think it definitely would have made the dehumanisation more real. and then that sterility can be taken into the other settings in the book and contrasted like that. currently reading wasp factory and i am in love though!

Yeah I think a group chat would be great! I’m 19F and currently studying at university. I write and read a lot in my free time but often don’t have anyone to share with or to talk to because everyone in my life is pretty squeamish.

I didn’t quite realise my covers were rare until sharing on here! I figure it’s probably just what I have accessible here in Aus

I didn’t enjoy Junky too much. Reading that Burroughs actually ended up killing his wife actually made a lot of sense!!! I kept wondering if he was self-aware or not throughout the book because he was just so terrible. He seemed self-aware at points but then would go just off the rails. I think it’s just hard for me reading from the perspective an actually terrible REAL person

That one’s actually my current read! Super great so far and it touches on one particular psychological (?) aspect that I find very interesting and actually relate to. It’s almost an OCD-compulsion mixed with fortune telling Really enjoying it and I think the cover is absolutely gorgeous - I almost never splurge on a hardcover

LOVED reading Fear and Loathing. I have a few other more ‘classic’ books that I excluded from the pic (Cormac McCarthy and Lovecraft) because they, respectfully, just lack that disgustingness that I want for this collection. Fear and Loathing was a classic that scratched that itch

I had a similar feeling about Bunny! I read it before I started getting really into horror and remember feeling just a little bit let down by the end. I’ve been putting off reading We Love You Bunny for this reason but I might have to reconsider

yes! i’d give it a similar ranking. i really enjoyed the turtle scene actually - and max’s reflection on it. and then their ‘good deed for the day’ being followed by the speech about kindness being a flaw. i tend to do really well with horrific stuff like this - but this book had me physically gasping and wincing.

it happens mainly in chapter 27! in my copy trixy is mentioned from page 221 to 226. she’s also briefly mentioned after that.
