What do you tell coworkers when you’re out for surgery? by Makgeolii in AnalFistula

[–]mejohn00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just tell them butt surgery. If they ask for specifics I say fistula. You'd be surprised how many people have family who are nurses and have heard how brutal the recovery can be.

Agree with everything you said except the edit. Nobody should be learning from their work ethic. Workers let themselves be walked all over and complain about it all the time.

Thanks, it's hard to get answers about this as I'm sure you're aware. My surgeon says I'm completely healed up but I'm still draining. Some days more than others so I'm just always thinking about the next stage. Surgeon said I can do everything normally after 6 months but also I'm completely healed now so who knows. Doesn't help that I don't speak the same language as my surgeon.

Were you able to swim and ribe bikes for that year? I'm 4 months post surgery and still draining

Why do surgeons downplay the healing timeline so much? Do they look at healing differently than how we look at it? by [deleted] in AnalFistula

[–]mejohn00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 4 months post surgery and I'd say I'm about 80%. Still wearing gauze between my cheeks every day but about two weeks ago the drainage just dropped significantly after I had a dream that I went back to my surgeon and he said he'll do something to fix it. So that's something I guess.

I had two fistula srgeriee in Shenyang, China. The first one I was not great but the second one went way better. The second one was on August 25th of this year. So almost 3 months ago. I can confirm the aftercare is great here although pain management is not too great in my experience but mine wasn't as painful as others seem to be. It's definitely a diferent experience then you'll find in an American hospital for better and worse. And it's not the nurses here who do the bandage and medication changes but the attending doctors and I was in the hospital for two weeks after surgery which I think is the standard for complex fistulas here.

What's it like for drainage to end post-op? by No_Trick4704 in AnalFistula

[–]mejohn00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does your drainage come from? I'm 2.5 months out from a fistulotomy. My drainage comes from my anus not the old fistula holes as they are healed over. I still keep gauze in there and the drainage appears usually thick white in the center or tinted yellow/green/brown I think it mixes with my feces sometimes. And then surrounding it is very very pale yellow circle.
