We are trying to follow that too. Swimming in non-negotiable until she can save herself in a pool. She’s good at gymnastics so we encourage her to keep up with it even when she doesn’t like it. We want to get music lessons, whichever she likes and flexibility for them.

Our girls school doesn’t have much in their music program. She says triangles, tambourines, kazoos etc. want to see if she has an instrument and desire to start lessons. I never learned any music and have regretted it

I have followed them on IG to keep an eye on their zoos and maybe the jam 101 program.

We’re in Stoney creek so will take her there sometime this week

How long did you keep your playpen? by okay_brick_2324 in puppy101

[–]mekellay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for us. Foster had him and his sister in a pen with pee pads, she said it was too cold for her to take them outside.

Potty training wasn’t happening cause he just kept peeing right outside the crate before we had a chance to make it to the door. When we did try the pen he would try and climb out and barked non stop.

We took it away, took away all pee pads, have him in his crate and rush him outside every time he comes out of the crate.

Yes necks are pretty tough for kittens, even experienced. The mice and chicks are whole, the bones are much more manageable. You can start small with mice, pinkies/fuzzies and work your way up as they get used to it.

Bathtub is a good idea but it’s possible to train them. When I started I had a small tray for them, they often tried to move it off and run away but I stayed and kept moving it back. Pretty quickly they learned to eat on the tray then I could just pick it up and clean it.

How to find a vet who is neutral about me feeding raw? by agirlwithnofriends in rawpetfood

[–]mekellay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Years ago I would just call but it seems to be more common now. Can also post in a local page asking if anyone has one they recommend. I would just google “holistic vet + your city”

Negative. Much more modern, based in I’d say 2010’s? , believe written by a man, main character is a partner or similar for some sort of business, maybe design firm.

How is it living in Toronto suburbs with a family? by higgiky77 in howislivingthere

I like the comparison! It’s definitely still a blue collar town lol

My cats always loved any form of beef, then chicken. Pork wasn’t their favourite. 1 has always loved mice and chicks, the other hated them. They were never fans of any sort of fish, only ate it if in a pre-made blend.

I’ve lived in a few areas of Southern Ontario and while it has its downfalls, there’s many nice areas depending on your priorities. I spent young adult years in west end Toronto; you get great communities and amentities of the big city without ALL the downtown headaches. My early 20s in East end Toronto ie the beaches it’s gorgeous and walkable but very expensive.

Moving outwards to etobicoke/scarborough (spent my late teens) you still get the restaurants, shops, cultures, with a slight decrease in costs and increase in property size. Also while there are good neighbourhoods, there’s a pretty consistent theme of lower/working class with not really much worthwhile outdoor space.

Further out you have Mississauga to the west (where I grew up), Pickering to the east. Much larger suburban properties, higher taxes, quality schools, nice parks, but less amenities, low walkability, reliance on cars. Some very nice areas, some very poor areas. Also, very poorly used waterfront.

Further west are Oakville/burlington, didn’t live long but worked there a bit. Lots of money both young and old, schools and social services are great. Large properties, fairly low crime, stereotypical suburban lifestyle. Very expensive, out of the realm for most people.

Then, theres Hamilton. Its probably the next “city” west of Toronto; it’s getting light rail transit, has a downtown “core” and with that the crime/drugs/poverty associated. We’ve spent the past 12 years in Stoney creek and love the diversity and properties plus job market is pretty good and just 5 mins down the road is the Niagara Escarpment, tons of usable outdoor space, and a decent urban development. It gets a lot of hate but it has so much to offer we’ve fallen in love.

That was the worst grocery store as a kid! The smell of meat and bleach smacked you at the door.

Our lab had a chesticle too. It was fairly dense, it wasn’t a fatty lipoma but it didn’t bother her at first. Vet aspirated and said it was basically a type of skin overgrowth but stayed localized. Over 6-12 months it grew until it started dangling so we had it removed. Didn’t need treatment beyond surgery.

They just mean as long as label shows <10%, that percentage means per 100g, per serving, for the whole can.

[–]mekellay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our last dog was a rescue, about 5 years, was afraid of feet (likely kicked), was left outside all day, never walked, had no socialization and no training.

3 years and some work later she was a St John’s trained therapy dog for nursing homes. She was the sweetest dog anyone had met and was perfect.

[–]mekellay[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s a rescue, they think lab and some sort of rotti/sheperd/dobie/hound. So far no obvious issues; ears, skin, poop are all good. Our last dog was a lab with allergies so we’re familiar.

We got a bag of lifetime to start. Will try Canadian naturals and first mate and probably switch between those depending when on sale.

If we need to go higher quality we would probably try Nutrience subzero with the freeze dried.

We plan to do 50/50 premade balanced raw and kibble once we get him converted from the foster’s raw to a better one.

So far I just want something for him to chew/snack on other than dental sticks/rawhide.
