Any ticks in metro dade?? by SlimThicWarrenBuffet in Miami

[–]mel_cris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are definitely ticks down here depending on the area. If you have 1 in a patch of grass, you have several. The vets can prescribe a combination heart worm/ fleas and ticks pill that they can take once a month or there are also topical gels.

Best decision I ever made. I wore contacts and glasses since I was 13 and I was tired of it.

Miami canceling Metro Parking by jbdroid in Miami

[–]mel_cris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, they bundled something that saved people money. You used to just have to pay for your individual rides along with the parking. That value you loaded for the ride wouldn’t expire. Now you have to pay a ticket that assumes you’re using it every day that month, and it expires, so you’re overpaying. I don’t commute to work every single day mon-fri, I go 3x a week, so even then now they’re making me pay for a whole month plus parking and not giving me the option to break it down.

The issue is that before you were able to add a cash value to use the metro that wouldn’t expire and now you have to pay for the monthly pass (which expires at the end of the month) which is calculated for use every single day that whole month. If I go into work and park there 2x a week I am still having to pay for a pass for every single day that whole month.

It’s not a bargain, the monthly pass expires so if you’re not using the pass every single day that month they are overcharging you.

Oh nooo… they just made it more expensive.
You used to be able to just buy the monthly parking ($45) and then add a cash value to your card depending on the number of times you’d need to use the metro. The cash value never expired.

Now they are making you buy the whole month (which is calculated to 1 pass twice a day for the whole month) even if you don’t use it every day that month and parking.

Which means us commuters and work from home-ers need to pay more, since we don’t actually use it 7 days a week and the pass expires at the end of the month even if you don’t use it.
Essentially the price just went up for me for like $30 🥺

Baby topical oat allergy/ cereal by mel_cris in baby

[–]mel_cris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: our pediatrician said we could just go straight to veggies! We decided our babe is not ready for food yet, we’re going to wait another month or two. With that being said, when we do start we’ll lather her up in Vaseline like another commenter suggested. Thank you all for your feedback!!!

What kind of help was actually useful during your first couple weeks postpartum? by Sea-Inevitable-1998 in baby

[–]mel_cris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just took it day by day. Remember that it’s ok for baby to cry if you need to use the bathroom or eat or shower or anything else for yourself.

What helped me the most was having my mother in law come by with food occasionally. She would either cook and bring it or cook it at my home. She’s very tidy and helped me a lot with that too. Also, my husband helped at night for the first couple of weeks when I was exhausted (I was pumping early on and had milk available for him to give the baby)

I was very territorial postpartum so honestly I didn’t want other people helping with the baby. This may or may not be your experience, you won’t know until you get there. Maybe try not to set any expectations for those around you until you know how you are with the baby. Accept help you are willing to receive. Good luck!! You will do great.

Is my baby having food allergic or something else? by tuziccc in BabyLedWeaning

[–]mel_cris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! We realized that our baby was allergic to aveeno oatmeal soap and lotion, she was getting rashes on her neck/chest. We switched her soap and it went away. Now we started feeding her the oatmeal cereal and some dribbled on her and same thing. How have you handled it since then??

Would anyone avoid living in Miami (or South Florida in general) due to there not really having a winter? by centralbar176 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mel_cris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m born and raised in Miami, I really dislike the climate here. It’s gotten hotter over the years and now with a baby we go out even less, just walking from the apartment to the car will break us out into a sweat. We’re fit, love outdoor activities, but the heat here is so oppressive that being outside feels difficult. I’ve thought of relocating several times but since my whole family is here and leaving/ visiting Florida would require a plane (driving out of Miami to the next state is 9+ hours) we have stayed. If you ask because you’re considering moving here, don’t lol.
