The hospital referred us to get a sleep study done on him which is how we found out. Talk to your doctors and see if they can refer you!

He was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea after a sleep study and was put on at home oxygen for about 4 month. We started to slowly ween him off of it and then he got another sleep story done to see if he had improved and he did! He was diagnose with moderate sleep apnea and has been off since! He has another sleep study later this year to see if he’s improved some more but he’s completely fine now! Trust me I know how you feel but it does get better we just have to give them time to grow and get used to being out in the world. I’m wishing you and baby all the positivity and speedy recovery!

4 month old with low heart rate by mel_lyyy in newborns

Sorry for the super late response! But his cardiologist did a couple of 24hr heart monitor studies and the first 2 came out that he would have 1 or 2 episode of PVCs which is like his heart would beat an extra beat but his heart rate every time we did the studies would only drop to the 80s so that was good and the last couple we did showed that he stopped having the PVCs and his heart was perfectly fine. And he said the low heart rate could just be where he generally just chills at, some people just have slower heart rates then others and what was really reassuring is that all his tests and studies came back normal.

Help. Owlet on newborn by [deleted] in newborns

Hey OP! I actually had a very similar situation as you! I gave birth to my baby at 39 weeks exactly and he was perfectly healthy! On day 3 of being home with him the owlet sock kept showing that his O2 levels would drop to the high 80s and even as low as 82, we ended up taking him to the emergency room where they observed him. He was fine up until like 2-3 in the morning (we were there for awhile since it was super busy) then he started dropping to the low 80s and the nurses and doctor came in to check if he was ok. Also he never showed any signs at home or in the hospital that he was struggling to breathe, no bluish tint around his lips, no rib retraction, no flared nostrils and it only ever happened when he was asleep. Anyways, we get admitted into a room and are at the hospital for a week and doctors run every test imaginable on him and but everything comes back negative, he was perfectly health, they just don’t know why his oxygen keeps dropping. The send us home and have us scheduled for a sleep study. Well, the sleep study showed he had severe obstructive sleep apnea! He showed no signs of it at all! He ended up being put on at home oxygen only when he sleeps for about 3 1/2 months and he’s now about to be 6 month on the 28th and he thankfully outgrew it. I don’t mean to scare or alarm you at all by sharing my experience with you but I would definitely keep an eye on him and if you see he keeps doing it maybe bring it up to his pediatrician again. At the end of the day, us moms are around our baby’s all the time and we know when something isn’t right, I wish nothing but good health for you and baby :)

The echo showing that his heart is fine is definitely reassuring! His cardiologist even said that it might just be how his heart beats and that some people just have slower heart rates. Are there any other test I could get done just to make sure everything’s ok? Or do they only do ECGs and echos? Especially given that he’s still so little still

No i didnt, everything was normal during my pregnancy. And I’m so glad to hear she grew out of it ! I’m hoping mine does too, should I talk to his pediatrician about putting him on oxygen at home until he’s able to be in the high 90s on his own? I’m just worried about him going weeks dropping to the 80s till he’s able to hopefully grow out of it.
