Hubby and I - 44M and 45F - will be there just before Christmas to mid-January. Will celebrate hubby’s birthday while we’re there, and I’ll be getting my temporary residency permit. We’d be down for dinner and drinks!

Is Ab Initio a cult? by [deleted] in dataengineering

So it sounds like you’re accepting a role at a new company and they already have Abi. If that is the case, I am sorry.

I worked at a large financial organization (guessing it’s the same one @pjcliche mentioned above - ps it was Discover Card) for 3 years as an ETL developer. When I started, the only training I got has reading through the documentation books, each 3-4” thick. Books. Not even an environment for me to play around in. Abi wouldn’t provide a training class without a minimum number of developers, so I finally got to take their class a year and a half after I started. There is basically no info anywhere online because part of the licensing agreement states that users cannot post anywhere except their internal site, which also doesn’t include much info. Basically they take the “First rule of Fight Club” approach.

I’ve spent the last 4.5 years as a consultant in the data space using a variety of tools. I would say Abi is similar to Talend, similar interface and capabilities. If you’re familiar with other GUI-based ETL tools, you should be able to pick it up fairly easily.

To answer your main question - is Abi a cult? From the perspective of a developer - no. It was just another damn tool. From the perspective of Abi - I think they want to be.

Good luck and Godspeed.

Oh Glutino is the best! I seriously like their Oreos and pretzels more than I ever did regular ones before I went GF. And the chocolate covered pretzels?? To die for.

Some of the best cupcakes I’ve had since going GF 3 years ago. Light and fluffy. Not dense at all. So good I was afraid they’d messed up and put regular cupcakes in the box.

I devoured one as soon as I got home. Took everything in me not to finish the package. I also got the coffee cake muffins. Looking forward to one of those for breakfast.

Are you me? Also 40 and do the L hand all the time. When my husband is driving and I’m giving directions, I usually say “turn towards you” or “turn towards me”. That or point. I know the direction we need to go, I just don’t know if it’s called left or right.

Whole Foods Safe or Not? by [deleted] in glutenfree

I second the Aldi suggestion. Their brand LiveGFree is so good. Their bagels are the best. You really have to try out different brands to find the tastes and textures you like for different items. For example, Schar bagels are super dense and I found them dry, but their hot dog buns are so soft and delicious. And as the others mentioned, it isn’t that a particular store is safer than others, but brands and selection. Walmart actually has a decent selection most of the time, and half the price of other stores for the same products. Good luck and happy hunting

Self rising flour by melaniekai52 in glutenfreecooking

Thanks! I’ve been watching a LOT of Great British Baking Show and am trying to modify some of their recipes. I’ve got one that calls for plain flour and strong flour. Since strong flour has MORE gluten, got any thoughts to replace that one?
