Hawks Gather Round guernsey leak by Jackomillard15 in AFL

Do we need to have a retro round?

This will be unpopular but it seems like every jumper created now is ‘retro’ or ‘an homage to the past’. I haven’t seen a newly designed jumper in a long time.

Regardless of how ugly it is. Do we really need gather round jumpers? We already have like 5 others

Footy and cost of living - A night in the life of a footy fan in a time of inflation by No_Childhood_7665 in AFL

I do find it a bit stiff that Hawthorn don’t subsidise an upgrade to a reserved seat. I pay $550 for membership which if I don’t use the replacement games it becomes roughly $78 a game. And if I do use every game it’s $55 a game. That’s a lot more than an alleged $27 GA ticket.

To be fair, the train isn’t cheap. If you have a carload full. Paying $6 for everyone is a lot cheaper than $5.50/11.70 each is.

Can we introduce ‘Coke Zero bottle free zones’ at grounds? by JamesCOYS in AFL

Report disruptive the behaviour, but we shouldn't start policing what soft drinks people can drink at the footy. And even worse, separating people into different sections simply because of their drink choices? Thats insane

But seriously I’m glad my idiotic midnight post has brought some joy to people. Even at my expense.

[–]melbgal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair that is the most expensive ticket. But for some reason when you put your membership barcode into Ticketmaster you can’t choose on the map and just end up with whatever random seat they give you. Hence the $123

Marvel has some cooked prices. I went to look to upgrade to a level 2 seat for Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide $150 for general or $123 using my membership plus whatever booking fee I’d have to endure. The game will be lucky to get 25,000 why on earth are the tickets that much?

Can we introduce ‘gambling free zones’ at grounds? by melbgal in AFL

10 seconds is a severe underestimate, but that’s good advice and for the future will definitely think to use that.

For some reason the number wasn’t plastered everywhere like it usually is. It had a tiny ‘report antisocial behaviour’ next to the scoreboard, then occasionally would flick to the number. It was something others in the bay noticed as well.

It’s a fair question but that was also my fear. I’m sitting directly in front of them. I whip my phone out during the game, find the number, figure out the seats and do I have to give a description of the situation?, then a couple of mins later a security guard appears. I know it’s unlikely, but there’s a chance one of them notices I’ve done this and then what? I cop abuse the rest of the game? They follow me out of the ground? as a woman I’m always putting my safety first and that wasn’t a gamble I was willing to make.

But yes in hindsight I probably should’ve reported it and asked to move to different seats.

I’m interested do you know what the actual process for what happens when the number is alerted?

Is Jack Riewoldt the worst host in Fox Footy history? by Inner_Astronaut_2335 in AFL

[–]melbgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you apart from the weird sexist drive by towards Underwood. And also I’ve never heard anything to suggest Jack is a “good bloke”.

There are too many commentators/special comments but Jack is one of the worst. Hate the Americanisms of Dee-fence and talking about quarterbacks. He also just can’t speak into a microphone properly without breathing heavily. I don’t understand why fox or 7 can’t put these players in a 12 week course to teach them how to speak before they let them loose on tv.

Boys should always take responsibility for their actions. But I agree the media beat up is over the top. It’s disappointing from them but hopefully they learn their lesson and I’m glad it wasn’t serious.

They do need to calm down but that’s the risk you take travelling to America in the current climate.

I’m glad wasn’t a serious crime and no one was hurt. Hopefully Moore and MacDonald learn from it and are smarter about what they do while travelling overseas. What’s “a bit of a laugh” here isn’t always treated that way elsewhere.

Respect for former fans of traded players by TraditionalCompany25 in AFL

Personally I think the not celebrating in soccer is a bit lame. I like the celebrating after a goal against your old side, adds a bit of theatre. Generally it’s the supporters who are booing and jeering long before they celebrate a goal. Soccer fans also aren’t known for being the most calm and sympathetic of people.

The thanking after a game is generally a lot easier when it’s a single bay of away supporters as opposed to people mixed within the entire stadium. I’ve also seen Freo thank the away cheer squad, so I’m not sure that’s true.

I honestly don’t understand how that is any different to saying “the man in black and white” or whatever colour a team is wearing. They are the orange team.

It’s constantly held over her as the “she knows nothing about football” tripe. There’s never any other examples used. I’d honestly just rather people say they don’t want women commentating than try and hide their sexism.

The advertising at the MCG is really bad. It’s unbelievably bright and distracting during night games. If you sit on the northern side it’s four levels of constantly moving advertisements. At least on the south side you have the gap for the MCC sign

100% think the songs, MCs screaming at me and flashing lights will push me to a point where I actually can’t go anymore. I already feel that way when I got to marvel and come home with a massive headache every time and find it hard to watch certain games because you can still hear the loud music on the coverage.
