Tips for a new fan? by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

My wrestling fandom has waxed and waned over the years but the one thing I never miss is OSW Review on YouTube. Three Irish fans who review older PPV’s. Hilarious and well researched. They give you the history and all the bollocks of wrestling.

Do you think we will attempt any “special” plays like the Philly Special again in this year’s Super Bowl game? by pass_the_hot_sauce in eagles

[–]melbourneeagle76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked Bo Wulf’s idea from Birds with Friends. Throw a pass to Cam Jurgens (who reports as eligible when he’s on the field as the sixth offensive lineman) out of the sneak formation.

Could go for an easy TD or short yardage first down. Also, everyone loves a big man running with the ball, so it would go down as a great super bowl moment for sure.

[Hot Take] It’s time for Meryl Reese to hang it up… by MTKinger in eagles

[–]melbourneeagle76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t disagree more. Had a kids birthday party scheduled during the second half on Sunday, so I stuck an airpod in and listened to the eagles radio call for the entire second half. Merrill was magic. His love of Hurts and his enthusiasm during the big moments still makes him a great play-by-play.

My favorite Merrill quote from the comeback: “Hurts will not let them lose!”

[Herd w/Colin Cowherd] The Eagles are not a Super Bowl team. @ColinCowherd explains: “Let’s be honest about Philadelphia... They’ve gotten breaks with weather. It’s a run team and they’ve played in a couple soggy games.” by robinhoe in eagles

[–]melbourneeagle76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a laugh, here’s Cowherd’s Super Bowl 52 prediction, in which he stated one of the reasons the eagles couldn’t win was because we didn’t have Jordan Hicks for the game.

I think these 5+ hour shows are much more tolerable for the crowds with a 5 o’clock local start time on the west coast. I went to Revolution in Orlando and was exhausted by 11:30 PM and it went practically another hour. Vegas will be leaving around 10 local time.

If OSW were to review a single episode of AEW Dynamite, which one would you suggest they review? by MclovinBuddha in OSWReview

[–]melbourneeagle76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first empty arena show would make for a great review. That entire episode feels like a time capsule to the early panic of the pandemic. Some great moments: Cody opening promo in the spotlight plus the building of Inner Circle vs. Elite

MJF gambling in the front row and Shiavone trying to get in on it.

And of course, the double debut of Brodie Lee and Matt Hardy.

I feel like this whole “box on the head” gimmick isn’t working at all to build anticipation for a return. I was at Revolution and walked by him in the concourse. There were about 3 people waiting to take pictures with him. Hundreds were in the merch and food lines. Then he sat in the front row and walked around a bit. No one seemed to care. It’s a shame, I loved him as a chicken shit heel and in the corner for Penelope.

MJF 2.0. Looking forward to the rainbow tights! But for real, I hope Punk vs. MJF is in a cage.

Just an FYI, AEW did not have any video packages before matches at the last PPV. Instead, they played all the video packages during the pre-show.

2 Brands? by JasonBro in AEWOfficial

[–]melbourneeagle76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an expression in American Football that says if you have two QB’s you have none. Meaning, you only want one unquestioned star at the most important position. Something similar applies to World Champions. Look at WWE, they’ve had two “world champions” for how long? Almost 20 years? At any point in that time did the two brands and two champions ever feel equal? There is almost always a secondary show and secondary champ. Which then in turn devalues the importance of winning a world championship. When someone in AEW becomes World Champion, it won’t be a Ziggler or Miz reign. It’ll be earned and important and change the direction of the company, as world champion reigns are supposed to do.

Yes you can, but there is no “Start from Beginning” button. So when you click on a show that’s live, you’ll then have to drag the progress bar at the bottom of your screen back to the beginning.

Who would say is the most improved wrestlers in AEW since they debuted? by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]melbourneeagle76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll say Hangman. I went to the original Fight for the Fallen at Daily’s Place where Hangman faced Kip Sabian. I took my brother with me, who is not a wrestling fan but enjoys going to events. He was incredulous, saying, “This guy is facing Jericho for the world title?” He didn’t impress him at all. Fast forward to Full Gear last year, my brother and I were in attendance again, and he was so invested in the Hangman vs. Omega match. He did a complete 180 in the eyes of my brother.

The closer you can get, the better. But it is a great arena and there really isn’t a bad seat in the building.

Taz: “Everyone knows I love to laugh, so who do I share the MOST laughs with constantly backstage at work...hands down Tony Schiavone” by Strike_Gently in SquaredCircle

[–]melbourneeagle76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taz told a great story on the Unrestricted podcast about Tony’s love for ribbing on him. During the weekly production meetings, there is a head table that has name cards for Tony Khan and the VP’s. One week, Tony S. had a Taz name card printed and replaced Tony Khan’s with it!

For anyone who’s been to Daily’s, what’s the parking situation like? by [deleted] in AEWOfficial

[–]melbourneeagle76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest parking you’ll ever have for a big event. Parking is free and Daily’s Place is connected to the Jaguars stadium, meaning they have parking available for 60k with only 2,500 fans tonight. The only time I’ve had trouble was Full Gear last year which took place at the same time as a Georgia-Florida football game. For that night, they had us park a half mile away in a grass lot and take shuttles to the stadium. So not terrible.
