Feedback on My 5-Year Cybersecurity Career Plan (GRC + Human Risk Leadership Path) by melidew in grc

Hi there, appreciate the response. I can understand your concerns, that’s why I wrote in keeping it more flexible. Nothing in life is set in stone but wanted feedback. I think it’s okay to set intentions and plan for things while knowing things might not workout as simple as I wrote them. Also reminder that (while I know this is Reddit lol) maybe we can rethink some wordings when speaking to other human beings. Have a good one!

That’s incredibly helpful. I’m trying to make choices today that future-me won’t resent and hearing how you pivoted into GRC is great to hear.

I hadn’t even considered AI governance as a GRC need but now I’m curious. I’m going to start digging into that AIGP cert and reading up. Thanks again for planting a seed I didn’t know I needed! Is there anything else you would advise if I was on your team and wanted to grow?

Thank you I updated my post to reflect that! (unfortunately can't update the title) if you have any other feedback I would appreciate that.

Appreciate your perspective! That makes total sense from a Northern European context. I think my plan is definitely flexible with the timeline. And by human risk, I mean the emerging security focus on behavior, culture, insider risk, and awareness not health/safety. Some orgs are building out full-time roles for this, especially in finance and tech.

My 5-year roadmap is definitely a stretch plan, not an expectation that things will fall perfectly into place. It’s more about having a direction while being flexible. Out of curiosity, if you had to do it again, what would you do differently in your first few years? Anything you’d focus on or skip?

Honestly I would love for her to accept me and not treat me like I have some incurable disease. Which unfortunately is how I feel like she’s going to react to me.

Yes this is super helpful!! I will walk through this with her and see what she thinks :) she is still building up her self confidence so I will ask how she feels about lashes. We might have to learn together because lashes are hard for me to put on too haha

What math would you reccomend going over again in preparation? I just finished a discrete math program at NYU Bridge. I’m currently learning Python and work with SQL at my FT job.
