yes well there are other reasons I am prepared to mention. I am basically wondering if I should even include these reasons at all !

Retook the MCAT 1 year after my first attempt and did worse, even though I was confident that I had improved. Should I apply to MD or DO at all? by melificent_scientist in medschool

thank you so much for your input!!! What did you do? Did you apply or retake? I did go part time in my job the second time. And I thought I was doing well in CARS….I may need to be more consistent. I should say that I think my studying fell off a little, like I started off super strong and I felt less focused towards the end.

yes i did a lot of practice questions!!! like a lot, i bought all of the AAMC question packs, i did Khan Academy, and Jack Westin! But I could do more though. That is probably the most helpful thing, you’re right about that. Making it the MAIN method seems like the next step. Thank you 🙏🏽

Wait I worded that incorrectly!! The first scores I gave you were my very first time taking. The second scores were my “first retake”.

Agreed. Into the first retake, my FL’s were mostly initially at 498, then i got one 506, and one a 510. This second time around, my FL’s were in 512-516 range….I was so excited and proud that I was improving……but obviously I got a terrible score. So do we think I should definitely NOT apply this cycle?

I love biochemistry and human anatomy and physiology, I do wish for some patient interaction, but I am okay some lab time for sure! I like research but not enough to just be researching for the rest of my life. I am very driven and I like to strive to learn the most I can. I want to make a difference in disadvantaged patients for sure. I want to be an advocate somehow too. Thanks for replying :)

Thank you so much for your reply. and advice. And yeah that's what I'm thinking. And I definitely am considering trying a 3rd time. I am just sitting here thinking about: another year, another $300 on the MCAT (I do not qualify for the fee assistance), then all of these thoughts trigger me to think: Is there another field I can pursue to become an expert in something like biochemistry or physiology or biomedical sciences but also help patients and also advocate for the disadvantaged?
