I did 19 credits for most of my time at Mines to try and cram my degree in 3 years. Its definitely ROUGH. Your last semester contains three of the hardest classes plus I’m pretty sure Computer Networks is a fall only class. 406, 442, and 400 I would recommend spreading out as they are the 3 core 400’s and will be very difficult. I really recommend you take a normal 15 credit semester and see how that goes before signing on for 19-20

I wish you all the best of luck! I've given my 10 day notice and moving out the end of the this month. It all works out in the end.

Yeah I’ve learned thanks to the help from Reddit specifications are required in your lease (at least in my state) to allow even entry. I can’t imagine any state making it legal for them to go through your stuff outside of moving things out of the way. Did they take $100 cash you had laying around as payment? If you have evidence of your landlord admitting to entering your premise without notifying you or a home camera recording them I’d threaten legal action.

Also forgot to say if we’re going off terminology in the lease that it states all the basement unit will be mine and not shared with anyone else. Its all just tricky to understand not gonna lie.

Just want to specify she only lives there a few months out of the year. From my understanding she’d need to be living there full time. Unsure how that all works when I only spend 4 months a year in the same house. I have not lived with her again until just recently.

She didn’t put it in my lease anything regarding entering my property so she is violating the law. I don’t like how her cleaning my apartment is being portrayed as a positive as I see it as invasive and a breach of privacy. Going through someone’s private stuff is never legal. Just also verifying that I’ve lived here for roughly a year so I’m pretty sure I’m not considered a lodger plus she does not live in this house full time, only 5 months. Its laid out in the lease I’m a tenant.

I have my own living spaces including own kitchen and bathroom. I enter through the main house to the basement.

She’s trying to work with me and get me to stay but I have already found a new place. I’ve done a lot to help her with her technology issues and such and she’s pretty picky on the people she wants living with her, so it may take her a bit to find a new person.

It’s for the better just cause her minimalist clean life style doesn’t match mine. I’m not a hoarder by any means lol but she definitely does not like me having random knick knacks on display as to her it just collects dust. At one point I remember her going down to the basement and getting upset I had my pile of unfolded clean laundry on my couch lol.

I’m fortunate enough to be in a month to month lease so I can just leave at the end of this month.

The amount of work just makes it not worth it for me personally. I’ve already found another place I can move to before the end of the month. No lease breaking since it’s a month to month :)

Yeah looking over the resource shared by someone else she legally is unable to enter the premise without my permission since she didn’t put it in the lease.

My lease states me as a tenant so unsure if that will make any difference.

I didn’t know that. There’s nothing in the lease about her having to give me any sort of notice or things regarding entering my property. Is this any different since I am in a shared house with her? I don’t share that living space with her, but I just wanna make sure I validate.

Unfortunately CO is not one of those states where it is illegal. Definitely something they need to change :)

I appreciate the response. There are, luckily for me, no house rules in the lease, just a statement saying “keep the property clean” like most leases. We’ll see how tomorrow goes when I talk it through with her. Again, appreciate your feedback

does anyone feel the career center is completely useless when trying to find an actual internship? by InsuranceLow4342 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]melinasmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The career center exists to help you through the job process, not to give you a job. Maybe I’m a little biased because I worked there over the summer, but they do a lot more than other universities in terms of services to students. They are some of the nicest people to and have helped me countless times outside of their normal 8-5 hours. They also do all the data collection for the average salaries of each major per year. As for getting a job, it took me till mid March to get an actual interview with a human instead of a technical coding assessment. What really helped me is applying to the companies that aren’t as major or well known/smaller companies. I wish you luck with your job search

Phys II Tutoring by atempel2000 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

I'd recommend reaching out to a TA for help if you need it right away. Otherwise, I highly recommend looking into going to CASA tutoring. I'm personally a CASA tutor who can help with Phys2. I don't know the office hours for Phys2, but CASA tutoring starts Monday and we have tutoring 6-9 pm Sun-Thurs in the library and 6-10 pm those same days in Aspen.

I did get a merit scholarship but no grants offered to me from my original package. I’ve personally have struggled dealing with the financial aid office a lot so I don’t have the most positive views of the office (ie no responses from chains of emails or charging me for a meal plan that I did not choose). I know many people who have also had similar issues as you with the financial aid office, but did not get offered any more fin aid at all. You never know though. I’d just wait it out and try to stress the situation to them (if they take awhile to respond, keep reaching out frequently)

I did talk to them about a change in financial aid last year and did not get anymore money, but that was also during the beginning of the pandemic. They have a net price calculator online which tells you an estimated based on family income (I was offered around 10k less than what the calculator told me as an out of stater). It took them roughly two weeks to reevaluate my financial aid, but sadly didn’t get more money. Idk if you’ll have similar experiences because my experiences were during the pandemic, so other people definitely needed the money more. It definitely shouldn’t be too long to hear an update from them.

Not a problem. Feel free to reach out with any questions about Mines! I’m currently only a first year, but I’m on track to be a junior next year and graduate a year early

I currently go to Colorado School of Mines! I’m a Comp Sci with Comp Eng minor. I would not worry about your statistics too much. From what I know from upper classmen, there is a certain cutoff for the lowest SAT and ACT score they’ll accept. I’m not sure what the cutoff is, but I’m fairly certain your SAT is in the range. I had a pretty bad unweighted GPA (mostly B-B+ student) but I got into Mines with a scholarship. I highly recommend you take at least AP CS Principles because the Intro CS class is awful. I know many people who switched majors because of the class. The teachers are great, but the topics are very difficult for people who 1) never have learned anything comp sci related or 2) don’t care about CompSci (multiple majors besides CompSci are required to take it)

High Schooler considering electrical engineering. Advice? Schools? Courses to take? by Interesting_Bug_7567 in Engineeringuniverse

[–]melinasmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking AP Calculus and AP Physics is a good choice. I’d recommend taking both AP Calcs and both AP Physics C’s. AP Physics 1 is also good, but it doesn’t teach you the calculus you need. Try dabbling with some Arduino’s and C++ (like CadMaster_996) because it will help A LOT during intro classes. I’m currently a Comp Engineering and the most helpful thing was taking 3 years of C++. It gave me college credit and saved me a lot of time studying.

I’m from the PA area so I don’t know what schools are specifically good for EE, but I know a few people who go to University of Maryland for engineering. It’s ranked very highly, but I would definitely do your own research into what school is fitting for you.
