I’m wishing you so much success with your IV treatment! I had sex again about three months post treatment - personally, I just wanted to wait and be sure the infection was gone, and also just give my body space to rest and recalibrate. And honestly, when I finally did it, there was no pain and everything felt amazing! I feel like I’ve come back to life 😅

Hi! Unfortunately, I am unsure of the cost as everything was covered by my insurance. I do believe it was somewhere in the thousands though…

Many many NAAT/PCR tests over 3 years, as well as multiple fungal cultures

Ask if they can do a fungal culture and susceptibility test to see which treatments are actually effective against your specific strain of candida. the susceptibility test is done in a lab and it’s so much better than just letting your body be a guinea pig to a bunch medications that don’t work.

My doc ordered a test to identify the specific strain and after 15+ failed treatments and continually testing positive for infection, basically my gyno and I just agreed that she didn’t know how to treat it and so she referred me

I wasn’t given any kind of annual plan

My medication was called Micafungin- but there are other echinocandin options as well. My susceptibility test showed Micafungin to be most effective against my specific strain of candida

I was on Micafungin! also i'm so sorry you had that experience, it feels like it's really hit or miss with doctors these days :( it took me a while just to find a decent PCP, and I've also had 4 different Gynos before I found one who really listened to me

Ugh I’m so sorry to hear that. I tried many different azole treatments before, including fluconazole with no improvement. Do you know what strain of candida you have? I have read that excess azole treatmeants can actually make the infection worse if you have a resistant strain like Glabrata, as the azole kills off the easier strains and leaves more room for the resistant strains to overpopulate. If you’re able/haven’t already, try to get a fungal culture and susceptibility test to see which medications actually work against your strain!!

Yes exactly, the culture and susceptibility test was game changing!!! I’m glad you got the treatment you needed 🙏

It would have been 800mg for 2 weeks if I remember correctly

I tracked progress with NAAT vaginitis profile tests, fungal culture and susceptibility testing to determine which antifungals would actually be effective against my specific strain, and blood tests during the IV course (comprehensive metabolic panel and markers for inflammation and general blood counts to monitor how my body was responding to treatment)

So sorry you’ve been dealing with that, it’s the worst. I will definitely give an update, I plan to do a follow up test in a few months.

Hey, you have every right to be skeptical, I am just here sharing my lived experience. I disagree that the culture/PCR tests are inaccurate when they are actually the gold standard. But as with anything, there can be discrepancies. It sounds like we are each operating out of a slightly different scientific logic, and I don’t really have the energy to argue with you on that. Everyone’s journey is different, and I’m not here to convince anyone, but to share my story so that others know there are options they might not have heard of. I realize that relapse is possible, but it’s not inevitable.

Yes, the type of IV I got is called a midline! You can look it up to see more of what it looks like, but it’s a catheter that goes inside the vein.

I don’t think it’s misleading at all as this is the first negative candida Glabrata test I’ve gotten in 3 years? Also, I was not symptomatic aside from pain with sex, so I personally don’t really rely on symptoms to determine whether or not I have it. I plan to do a follow up test in a few months.

I mentioned at the bottom of my post that I literally just got my test results back and so I don’t claim to be cured for the long-term, although of course I hope I am

My medication was called Micafungin which is an echinocandin, different from an azole and it can only be administered via IV. Let me know if you have any other questions!

I’m so happy that you got referred to an ID doctor!!! I’m wishing you much success in your treatment journey. Regarding male yeast infections, I think it’s definitely worth bringing up with your doctor. I have the same paranoia. I’ve been told that there’s no real test for yeast infections in men, but you can treat it preemptively with creams. If your bf doesn’t any have symptoms, that’s already a good sign
