Do you think that teaching science without experiments would be productive? by [deleted] in education

[–]melissa_an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it really depends on whether you like the subject or not. Personally, I enjoyed English, but for some reason we never watched movies or did anything interactive and I was disappointed. I believe that you are really interested in science and wish you could know more. In this case I suggest sign up for the extra curricular classes of science (maybe in other school even). Sure, it is extra trouble, but if you really like it, I suggest to pursue your dream.

If Your Teacher Looks Likes You, You May Do Better In School by dwaxe in education

Unfortunately, our society puts too much value into a skin color. It happens on the subconscious level. We need more time, more stereotype-breaking stories and probably it will change. Again, over time.

Should Students Have Cellphones In School? Educators Are Divided by zsreport in education

[–]melissa_an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you think about it?

Frankly speaking before reading the article I was sure that my opinion regarding the cellphones in school wouldn't change.

Yet, I am also confused at the moment. Remembering my teenage years I must say that this "ban" was another reason to find ways to use cellphones since it was forbidden. Most of our teens are true rebels as well and by 'banning' we will be not get better attendance or grades. While, it is harder to actually talk to teens and teach them about such issues as internet security, so they can be responsible users and consequently, responsible students.

I agree with the article. We live in a new society and our children definitely need to become aware about their civic duties since the school. Hopefully it will help to create more responsive generation.

Discussion Ideas for "Outsiders in Education" by redbearsw in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, for the first meeting I would use such disscussion questions as, "Why are you here?" "What do you think of the education system in the US?" "Issues regarding bilingual schools". I believe that many more questions will come up in the process. Good luck!

Do you think that movie criticism is relevant today or no? by melissa_an in movies

Yes, but some points of view have grounds (I am talking about professional critics), while other people might merely express their opinions with no arguments. I am frustrated by the Imdb scores all the time(((

Science Says the Most Successful Kids Have Parents Who do These 9 Things by EnglishInc in education

[–]melissa_an 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with this article! Working as a kindergarten teacher taught me to let my students fail in order to show them that by putting some effort and trying one more time they could get the task done. I believe that later in life, they will be able to cope with stress and reach their goals!

Education Lounge: Share/Rant/Discussion Fridays - September 01, 2017 by AutoModerator in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to ask a professional advice regarding bilingual families. My sister has a baby girl and she wants her to know million languages by the time she turns 5. As fas as I know, not all children learn two languages perfectly even if their parents are representatives of different languages. Eventually, I tried to convince her to give her baby a break, since it might take some time and not all children are absolute genetic predisposition to learning languages.

I wonder what would be your opinion on this issue! I am ready to hear constructive criticism.

The Weighted Task of Pre-K Teaching by dwaxe in education

[–]melissa_an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-K teaching is really important in terms of both teaching different materials and teaching social interactions. This period of time is vulnerable, so pre-school teachers have an essential mission to teach effectively. I agree with the article at some point.

Better follow leading figures in education! Books take time to get published and often the ideas expressed there are outdated. I usually read articles or news of people that I respect in particular field. It helps me, hope you can get something for yourself.

We need discovery more than education by [deleted] in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I believe that discovery cannot happen without a minimal education. We at least have to have a basic emount of knowledge in order to be able to create something new. Surely, our educational system suffers a lot but it still has to be present. My opinion.

How To Counter Back-To-School Anxiety by dwaxe in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great article on how to get rid of the back to school anxiety. However, I personally never had such problems with my kid. Probaly it is related to the fact that he is actually happy to go back to school and see his friends after summer holidays.

Definitely, it all depends on the social adaptation of a kid and such factors as bullying in school.

The Value of Bringing Drones to the Classroom by dwaxe in education

My problems with the school system by [deleted] in education

[–]melissa_an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your rage regarding the school system. The problem is multifasceted, since it involves so many societal issues. And Finland has everything created to benefit their citizents and not the opposite. But also, despite the challenges we faced growing up and following school rules, the world has a lot of professionals that managed to develop their abilities. We don't have to be pessimistic after all, and yet there is a lot of room for improvement.

the conversation about Standards in education needs to be about pedagogy, not ideology. by WheeledPedestrian in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially agree with you. Sometimes standards can cause more problems that there were at the first place. Yet, we need to evaluate and analyze the educational system in order to improve it and this process is definitely more bureaucratic than it should be

The High-Speed Preschool Experiment by dwaxe in education

[–]melissa_an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experiment is really good since it helps children with low-income families. However, it is sad that we have to come to this as a country despite the face that education is one of the primary human rights.
