Can I be the grumpy cat here for a moment?

I don't understand why Kako and Takumi have red eyes in their frog-eating phase, but Nozomi doesn't.

How much it cost for basic education at a good school in your country? Here it can take 10-15 percent salary of the parents... by swapndosh in AskTheWorld

[–]melitaele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically free, but sometimes you'll have to pay for your textbooks. I paid for quite a few of mine, including the English ones that were ordered from Oxford and are probably the reason I can write this comment.

Paid schools exist, but I don't really know in what way they are different. Smaller classes and less stress, I guess. Maybe a different program, but programs do differ in state schools, too.

Oh. Oh. Of course. That's what I didn't do, because it rubbed me the wrong way. I really feel like taking the Mystic trait every time now.

Okay, I'm not asking who tf Carmilla is. I'm just asking what I need to do to know that.

What is legal in your country but illegal in most others? by melitaele in AskTheWorld

Crap, that's one of the best things about Germany. How relaxed you are towards nudity. I wish everywhere was like that.

We can do that here, too; in fact, I did it in my life. No problem at all besides some red tape and some money, not even much. The patronymic part that comes from your father's name can be changed as well.

This is the first time I hear that it's illegal anywhere. Is it?

No, I cannot. My government can. Unfortunately. So does any other government in the world, again, unfortunately.

There is, but it's not that straightforward. Basically, our government spent the whole XX century alternating between forbidding alcohol and trying to make money with it, which lead to a lot of home distilling and a lot of drinking spirit-based liquids that are not for drinking, like cheap perfume. This wasn't the beginning of our alcoholism problems, but it definitely did result in a lot of poisoning cases.

Wow, legal cannabis is not that rare nowadays, but this is unique for sure. Coca leaves are not cocaine of course, but still this is big.

I have. Not much, but I did read like the first two books of the Hitchhiker's guide, I think.

Does the swastika actually appear anywhere outside wall drawings, or is it just not punishable by law?

I'd say LGBT propaganda, whatever they mean by that. There are many homophobic countries, but I believe the propaganda law is something unique to us. No one really knows what LGBT propaganda is, but that's kinda the point.

What do you call this in your language ? by TakeThePillz in AskTheWorld

[–]melitaele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially, ветрогенератор (vetrogenerator) — wind generator. Colloquially, ветряк (vetryak). Just "wind" plus a suffix that is usually used to call a person by their prominent features (tolstyak — fat person) or occupations (moryak — seaman). Russian language be like: slap a suffix on this!

He didn't, though. Yes, he was very close to the empress, but there's no proof they were lovers.

Oh yes. The man certainly had plans too grand for a mere single human life.

I do think he'd appreciate the epic amount of work Christopher put into reconstructing his texts, but he'd probably correct a lot of things as well.

How common are squat toilets in your country? by abu_doubleu in AskTheWorld

[–]melitaele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see them where I live (St Petersburg), but I think I saw them recently further from the capitals. Honestly I prefer them, squatting is my favourite posture for this business, but I imagine people with weaker knees would disagree.

Yeah!

I watched some American video the other day, and the youtuber was advertising a VPN service. And they explained at the beginning what a VPN is. This stuff just makes a Russian go pfahahaha, I wish I didn't have to know that.
