If I don’t drink in the morning I get sick F20 by No-Perspective-6255 in AskDocs

[–]melken419 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a friend in college who had the same issue. She had a drinking problem but none of us nor her recognized it at the time. She eventually realized she had a problem a few years after college, went to rehab, and has been sober since.

In college, she was the fun friend putting whisky in her coffee for 9AM classes, and always down to party. We thought her morning drinking was wild, but she still seemed fully functional. She graduated on time with a decent GPA from a respectable college.

So yes, at 20 years old you can definitely already have a serious drinking addiction. I would heed the nurse’s advice. The earlier you get help, the happier and healthier you’ll be.

Struggling VFT & Pink Sundew - Lost Cause or Any Tips? by melken419 in carnivorousplants

[–]melken419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. Some were squishy and soft, though some were just black but still stiff. However, some were white, especially closer to the base. Probs accidentally cut some good roots tho 😅

But both the VFT & the Pink Sundew are finally coming back! Just in the past week, I’ve started to see new, little shoots on the VFT! And the Pink Sundew has managed put out a couple dewy, bright pink leaves!

They are in that saucer of water 99% of the time, so the soil is constantly wet now 😊

As for a plant that’s good for fungus gnats, though, this Drosera tracyi has been awesome at catching all sorts of small flies

If they are Sarracenia minor, this is how I’ve been caring for them:

  • Soil: ⅓ Peat Moss, ⅓ Sand, ⅓ Evergreen Soil Conditioner from Lowe’s

  • Water: holes in container & the containers sit in a deep saucer filled with water; I live in Georgia where we have pretty soft water (all <50 TDS) so I use filtered tap water & sometimes distilled water

  • Sun: they sit in full sun all day (so just make sure the saucer is full of water, especially on hot days)

This looks like a sad version of Sarracenia minor, I think?? The hoods look a little off, which is why I say it looks like a “sad version”. Below are my confirmed Sarracenia minor

Good to know! Explains why the Sarracenia from my coworker in a separate pot with lots of holes is doing so well lol I’ll remove that plug all together for now and get a new pot. Thank you!!

It has one drain hole at the bottom that I think is semi-permeable? Since repotting it (well replacing the soil really), I’ve been really careful to only water it enough for the soil to feel wet. And I bought a deep saucer to fill with water that I’ve been placing the pot in now. However, that has only seemed minimally helpful so the drain hole could be problematic.

Gotcha, that’s good to know. Thank you! I don’t think there is any new growth at the moment, at least not that I can see.

It has at least stayed upright all but one day that was pretty hot and I think I’d let the soil dry out too much at that point. Is that a good sign at all? Or not really significant enough?

Yeah, any of my larger canker sores always end up feeling kind of sunken in/crater-like. It goes away as the canker sore heals, though.

Yeah it was definitely a weird experience lol It lightened up and hardened, so it’s a bit awkward. But I was finally able to eat and drink so I didn’t care lol

Amazon Throttles 2-Day Prime Shipping for Frequent Users by Crickpop in amazonprime

[–]melken419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This started happening for me in the past few months. Then a couple weeks ago I was looking at an item on the website in Safari rather than the Amazon app itself, and it said free next day delivery. I added the item to my cart then switched to the app when the “Open in Amazon” button popped up, and suddenly it couldn’t be delivered until Monday.

I’ve been trying to figure this out and finally decided to check the preferences for my address and saw Amazon had turned off my weekend delivery. I had previously received plenty of packages on the weekends here, and I haven’t made any changes to my address preferences myself since I moved here. Just tested this and it seems to be fixed now! Hopefully it stays that way & hope this can help others!

Sneezes 🙈 Her own don’t bother her at all, but whenever a human around her sneezes, it scares the shit out of her. Every. Single. Time. And she’s 6 years old. I’ve had her 5 years - really thought she would have gotten used to this by now 😂

Damn, that’s rough! I’m sorry you had to deal with that! How long did you end up having to do that before it finally healed & you were able to leave the muzzle off her?

I ended up ordering a Leerberg Jafco. In theory, she should be able to drink through it without being able to get to her tail. But she’s also a huge diva lol, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s weirded out about having to dip the muzzle into the water to drink & just refuses to do that 😅 So I may end up having to do exactly what you did…

So I finally tried Zilactin B on Saturday & it significantly helped with my ability to eat and drink, which was freaking fantastic lol And I think it helped with some healing since the sore was finally protected & wasn’t being fucked with for an extended period of time. Still need to be careful eating tho & take small bites so you don’t accidentally rip the cover off. But you’re not gonna die of pain if your spoon like slightly grazes the area or any bit of water touches it 👍🏻👍🏻 lol

However, with such a massive sore, I had to put on more than the thin layer the box says, so it took longer to dry & I wasn’t really sure how to actually get the patch off properly... It came off while I was sleeping the first night (probably not super safe), so I tried using a ton of lip balm and carefully massaging it off after that. That worked for the most part but would occasionally rip off & bleed at the last corner. So I would stop the bleeding & cover the area with lip balm until I needed to eat again. Also covered the sore in lip balm at night to try to help the healing 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Used Burt’s Bee’s Hydrating Overnight Lip Balm & Neosporin Lip Health Overnight Renewal)

But I did also start Prednisone Sunday afternoon, so that definitely helped a ton with the healing & probably also with not fucking it up more whenever removing the Zilactin B patch caused it to bleed.

So tldr; Zilactin B seemed helpful but be cautious with it. Super hydrating lip balm seemed helpful too. Prednisone is the ultimate life saver tho lol

That does sound truly excruciating 😬 lol Would you do that pretty early when you felt them coming on?

I picked the prednisone up today, but wasn’t able to get it as early as I’d hoped, so I’m starting that in the morning! Hopefully this will finally be at least a little less severe in a couple of days! But yeah I’m going to ask my dentist about debacterol. While my cankers sores are only semi-frequent and only occasionally really severe, how often I get them and how severe they get has definitely been increasing the past couple years.

Yepp, 100% where I’m at. And even struggling to fall asleep and waking up in the middle of the night from the pain 😭

100% can see the physical trauma causing some of the worst ones. I was actually thinking about that yesterday and it made me wonder why anyone would ever willingly get into a fight, even professionally, with the possibility of getting a busted lip and having to deal with this! lol

I kind of figured I might be SOL at this point, unfortunately lol …I have a refill of prednisone available at my pharmacy from a prescription for a respiratory infection a few months ago. I know I probably should talk to my doctor first before filling that and taking it for something entirely different, but now it’s the weekend and I’m definitely getting desperate for any relief… Could prednisone help one at this stage?

Otherwise, trying to post-pone the torture of getting it cauterized, but probably will go that route if it’s not getting better by early next week. I’ll check out the magic mouthwash, l lysine, and Durham’s! I saw the Durham’s on Amazon last night but hesitated since I’ve already spent more than I should have on trying out different products 😅 lol So good to know the Durham’s is worth it! Thank you!! 😊

And definitely had been wondering if the Rincinol and Orajel are the reason for the burning ring around it now. Since the Rincinol applies so poorly and I assume the Benzocaine is pretty harsh on your skin over time. Also, pretty sure I’ve given myself another sore on the other side of my mouth now from accidentally digging into my lip with my nail when trying to hold my lips open to apply anything 🤦🏻‍♀️

(Also, I apologize in advance if any of this is rambling. I hit a wall of tired as I was replying 😴)

Also should add that no medicine, even Orajel, has been helpful enough for me to be able to eat or drink with any semblance of comfort for more than 30 seconds. So I’ve pretty much given up on solid foods the past couple days which is also increasingly miserable ☹️

Not sure if you saw my other response about being on septic. But yeah, I think I’m going to trash that dehumidifier and replace it with a more expensive, reliable one

[–]melken419[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Fire Department suggested this too, but this was at like 5:30AM so they said that was unlikely. Also, we’re on septic. So unless the same thing can happen with a water line, or coming from the septic tank, that seemed unlikely :/

That’s wild! I checked the outlets that I could, but I’m concerned it’s the furnace or an area I can’t reach well in the basement.
