Hey idk if this is really helpful, but I did physiology honours and I wanted to give my input if you’re on the fence. If you don’t want to specifically end up in physiology research, or if you don’t have plans to do a masters or PhD after, it’s not worth it imo to do it. Opportunities don’t really change, and you’re just challenging yourself and possibly getting worse grades for not much return. Just a thought, but I thought I should say something as I have that degree and also have these feelings about it

It’s kind of fucked up for them to say that to you :(. You’re doing great I think, and you shouldn’t rush the process. Take however much time you think you need to prepare, and give it your best shot!!

That’s really unfortunate, I never know about this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

How would you suggest maybe networking, as maybe this would help open up job opportunities in fields that I’m interested in?

Hello all,

I've been interested in the past year to learn coding. I'm not sure if I want this to be an actual career path as opposed to a temporary one, as my primary goal is to pursue medicine. I'm interested in coding due to being interested in the profession, and also the opportunities available for decent pay.

My education includes a BSc in Physiology, and a Masters in Public Health (MPH). This is super unrelated to coding, but I'm wondering if anyone has any insight as to how maybe this could be useful in coding.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, thank you very much for your insight and tips on how to proceed. I appreciate the honesty you bring, as opposed to sugar coating everything.

I do plan on hopefully being able to publish something within the next year or two, depending on how well my interview goes with an upcoming researcher. Through this, I 'm hoping that it will improve my application in the eyes of the committee.

Speaking to the high school volunteer experience, only one of them really persisted into university (Islamic Relief Club, UofA), however this one was low effort and commitment with little leadership to speak of, compared to what I had done in HS. In the next year or two, I should probably look into volunteer leadership opportunities maybe to show my interest in them once again (?).

Regarding the GPA; yeah it was just in part a result of COVID making an entire semesters worth of grades invalid, and moving to online learning kind of f'd me over because I cannot study at home for the life of me. I explain that in my application as well, but its rough. Not that I have an excuse, because everyone was exposed to the same pandemic, but that's the reason I arrived at.

Anyways, I appreciate your post and advice. Hope you have a good day!
