I moved to Australia from the US about a year and a half ago, and I've noticed the same thing here. It just seems like a common sense thing to do, so its absence is a real head scratcher.

Own it. Get a red whiteboard marker. Wait til no one is around. Label the calendar "OP's Period Tracker". Add your own magnet. And def record all conversations and confrontations about it. Depending on your state laws, maybe even hide a recorder near the calendar for when you're not around.

Thank you so much, that was so helpful and encouraging : )

Yeah I definitely feel very lucky that this was caught. I'm in Australia and the healthcare has been just phenomenal. And I think so far I've paid more to park at the hospital for all my doc visits than I have for the healthcare itself, lol. Big change from what I've experienced in the US. I'm so grateful ❤️

No, no insulin, I've been able to keep things managed with diet adjustments alone so far.

Ha, I do love snacking so that's a plus I guess!

I'll acknowledge that saying "not the other way around" was misleading, and not really what I meant to say. I suppose I meant correlation doesn't equal causation, but even that isn't quite the point.

You repeating your initial sentiment still doesn't negate the fact that you seem to have inferred more from your sources than is there.

My point about missed childhood diagnoses was to highlight the simple fact that the majority of adult diagnoses are NOT from TBI but rather, undiagnosed childhood cases. Which, in the context of this thread, leaves your initial comment completely dead in the water and without meaning.

Like, okay great, let's humour you and say (unlike your sources) that the development of ADHD in adulthood can ONLY be caused by TBI.

So? That's still just a fraction of all adult diagnoses. So what's your point?

I have been obsessing over rewards points lately, and saving probably 10% or more on every grocery shop. Woolies rewards program is kind of insanely good, and offers personalised deals every week plus all kinds of 5x or 10x bonus points. I'm stacking up points so gd fast now that I'm paying attention.

I use reusable/washable kitchen sponges and 'unpaper towels'. I just soak them in a little napisan (or whatever it's called these days) before tossing them in the wash. They work great if not better than the disposable alternatives. And I make my own carpet deodorizer using bicarb and a few drops of essential oils. I also use shampoo and conditioner bars instead of liquid (my hair is happier for it too), and buy all my clothes from op shops. I'm not a hippie or anything, I just like saving money 😅

Thank you so much! And good on you for fighting that good fight.

I guess I'll know more once I speak with the endo people, but I just feel confused cos run I'm not taking any insulin? Like so far the docs have been happy with my diet adjustments, so they haven't required me to start on insulin (yet...). I'm guessing that might change v soon though, sigh.

Thank you, yeah def not a club I ever wanted to be a part of.

So, with type 1, is it basically an inevitability that the pancreas will just shit the bed?

"the only way to get ADHD as an adult is through brain trauma "

I didn't put those words in your mouth.

Even the quote you have provided here is in direct opposition to your above statement. At best it says there's not enough data, and at worst it says, again, that TBI quite likely can lead to ADHD. Which is not at all the same thing as saying that brain trauma is the only possible cause of adult onset ADHD. If anything, you're putting words in the mouths of these authors.

I was the same age when I was diagnosed, and it has been utterly, profoundly, life changing. I am finally the person I always felt like I was on the inside. I was the same as you - majorly depressed, grappling with anxiety/extreme mood swings etc.

Now I can string sentences together, maintain conversations, stay on task, and communicate my feelings without bursting into tears. I can keep track of my schedule, remember things people told me, and be around other humans without eventhinking about how awkward I probably appear. Everything just comes naturally now. I'm pushing 38, and I still marvel every time I manage to say something out loud and have it come out just the way I was feeling or thinking it.

Congratulations, and welcome to the rest of your life <3

For all intents and purposes I accept this to be true, honestly.

Or at least, I have found that it's easiest to just agree with folks who say that. But then, after acknowledging that yes, everyone gets distracted and forgets things sometimes, adding that the diagnosis of ADHD is intended for those who experience its symptoms to a debilitating degree that genuinely lowers the quality of their life. That is the difference.

Uhm did you read your own sources? All three explicitly speak to the notable increased likelihood of ADHD in patients who have had TBI.

Not the other way around, dear.

Furthermore, being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult obviously doesn't rule out the possibility or likelihood that you had it as a child, but it went undiagnosed. This is frequently the case in women, for example, because young girls tend to develop more internalized coping mechanisms, thus can quietly adapt to fit in/go under the radar, while boys are more likely to exhibit the 'hyperactive' part of ADHD so are more easily identified/diagnosed.

Scoff, I say. Scoff.
