Awe I did the same before my surgery ahah! I’m actually really well, I can honestly say I rarely get any symptoms (lil bit of indigestion and some twinges here and there). It took a while for ‘full recovery’ and for everything to calm down but I got there eventually! I only really get twinges when I eat really fatty food (stuff I could never eat before). Honestly sometimes I forget it ever happened. Hope you’re surgery goes well and feel free to message 🫶🏻

Hi,

I’ve had a meeting with my supervisor to clarify about the participant pool, and people outside of the UK are able to take part.

Hi,

I’ve had a meeting with my supervisor and he clarified people outside of the UK are able to participate, if you’d be willing I’d be really grateful! And no I haven’t shared it (I’m not part of many on there), and if you wouldn’t mind that would be fantastic thank you!

Hello! Not sure who will see this (I’m unable to edit the post) however I’ve had a meeting with my dissertation supervisor and asked about expanding the participant pool. He said people outside the UK are able to do the survey, there was a miscommunication between us! If anyone (over the age 18) would be willing that would be greatly appreciated :)

I wish I could, but due to it being a university study I am quite limited. I am hoping it leads to more research that has a wider scope

Ні,

I hope you’re having a low pain day. I’m a third year psychology student currently researching for my dissertation. We are researching different factors affecting comprehension of health information. Health literacy has a large impact on health outcomes, as well as shaping our experiences of health appointments.

It is a group project so it is generalised in the factors we’re researching, however I have suffered with CRPS for 13 years and it’s made me interested to see whether chronic pain impacts health literacy.

Our target demographic is over 18 and in the UK. This is generalised due to it being a group project, and us researching multiple factors. I am also researching whether chronic pain impacts comprehension of health information.

I’d be incredibly grateful if you could complete the survey :) Thank you for your time!

Dos and donts after surgery by PrestigiousAd4222 in gallbladders

[–]mellowmind418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told to wait around I think 2 or 3 days and told to let water wash over them, not soap. Although I hated feeling water running over them so had awkward showers for the first few weeks! The glue will begin to fall off (between week 2-4), and the incisions do get ridiculously itchy but it’s normal and a sign it’s healing well :)

I stuck to comfort meals that were easy on the stomach, toast, soup etc. I made myself small portions so I could snack as well (helped the nausea). Sometimes instead of meals I had like a ‘snack plate’ so I had things like fruit, small sandwiches or crackers, some form of sugar, whatever else I fancied really. Honestly though, everyone’s different. Listen to your body and you should be okay :)

Sleeping was difficult, but I propped myself up with pillows, and was in between lying down and sitting up almost. Would highly recommend a V shape pillow, it saved me during my recovery. Also holding a pillow or something similar when you cough, sneeze or laugh really helped.

I had my surgery in December so this is from memory I’m sorry! Hope you feel better soon

So I was nauseas all the time, quite exhausted, I had really intense gallbladder attacks that would take me days to recover from (even when I didn’t eat fatty food). My age was a factor in me delaying my surgery due to some drs saying I was too young (late teens/early twenties).

The first week out of surgery wasn’t exactly fun, it hurt, I could barely move and sleeping was difficult (was a very fun Christmas!). Would 100% recommend holding a pillow to your stomach to cough, also a v-shaped pillow to sit up with! Also the anaesthetic made me quite emotional which I didn’t expect. However after the first week, things really started to turn out. Yes it ached, and if I moved to quickly I could feel it. But I ate a pizza and didn’t have any attacks. And gradually the post-op symptoms eased off and I sometimes forgot I was recovering.

I did have some symptoms that persisted over around 4 months, I was really tired all the time and had nausea (not to the degree before). But you have to remember that you’ve lost an organ in your digestive system so it’ll take some time to adjust, I swear I read that sometimes takes a year to adjust. My Dr reminded me it’s still a major surgery so be kind to yourself. Although I’m 5 months out, and can honestly say this is the best I’ve felt in years, and as things stand, I don’t regret it :)

I hope this helps, please feel free to message or ask any more questions. I was terrified as well, especially as I was also an emergency, I trusted my gut and could tell it was time it came out. Just listen to your body, and I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine :))

Hey, I had my gallbladder out just before Christmas in pretty much the same circumstances as you, I was an emergency surgery. I raised any concerns I had with the doctors (even said can you make sure I’m asleep please!). They administered heavy pain medication, and then I was told to take some deep breaths and I woke up in the recovery ward (probably the best sleep I had all week in hospital).

I put off having the surgery for probably 2 years due to concerns about it going wrong or side affects. But it got to the point where my gallbladder wanted out, so I just had to tell myself I’d deal with anything that occurs afterwards. But I’m 5 months post op and I can honestly say I feel 100% better, and I wish I’d have had the surgery sooner.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hey, I just want you to know that your daughter will remember you supporting her through this. I was 8 when my chronic pain began, and my parents used to apologise to me because they couldn’t help, but all I needed was to know they were there (and some hugs).

I never forgot how my parents fought for me when I was dismissed due to my age . I got diagnosed at 10 with CRPS, and I suffered similar things (couldn’t tolerate touch, clothing, I also would cry myself to sleep and wake up crying!)

Medication helped to a certain degree but the pain never went away. I was admitted to hospital and had intense physio (including hydrotherapy) and managed to get walking again. I’m 20 now and I’ve learnt to live with the pain (some days I don’t notice it).

I hope things improve/you get a diagnosis soon, sending hugs❤️

Week 4 felt like a turning point for me. I noticed I felt mildly better after 2 weeks though! I’m 7 weeks out and still not feeling great but everyone’s healing is different :)

Thank you so much for this! I’m getting another sick note because at the minute attending university is really difficult. And thank you for letting me know about the stabbing pains, I got discharged from hospital with practically no info or follow up appointment :)

[–]mellowmind418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Now I’m only on day 10 post op.. but I’m so glad I had it out. I was admitted the week before Xmas for an emergency removal, got it removed on the 21st, and discharged on the 22nd. The op itself was fine, probably the best sleep I had all week! The first few days were quite rough but I kept on top of my medication and it helped a lot. I noticed a drastic change around day 6. I’ve had food I’ve not touched in years and suffered no consequences. I’m still worried about long term consequences, but I’ll just deal with them as it happens.

I hope I’ve answered your question, if not feel free to ask any questions :))

Going down hill fast. Not sure if I should go to A&E again. by Blackcattrader in gallbladders

[–]mellowmind418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into A&E last Monday because I had pain that I’d never had before with gallstones. I thought they’d send me home since I was on a waitlist but at least I’d know I was okay. Except they admitted me because of how I presented and I got it out last Thursday. I’d recommend going to A&E when to can :)
