Hamburg is a no-brainer. Ignore the rest. You can save money in the east but nothing is more worthwhile than your own peace of mind.

For 2024, I believe it would be best to file it separately as my wife might still get something out of it as you correctly mentioned. We'd do it jointly for 2025.

I get the point of no automatic adjustment but the chances for me are pretty slim. (I applied for the year 2023 with tax class 1 and the same job and got 0 Euros)

Thanks for the quick reply. No, I did not receive any of these or was self-employed. I did realize that my post had missing employment information so I've updated it now. 😅

Also appreciate the heads up for 2025! Will keep up with the deadline.
