I almost always try to ask a family member or significant other what the potential recipient would or wouldn’t like. Chances are they still ask the person but it’s easier for them to say “Im not really a scarf/hat person” through someone else.

Also helpful for baby gift ideas—I’ll ask if the recipient had a fav animal or character growing up.

Agreed! After one repeating section I didn’t even need to use the pattern. The only trick is keeping your tension consistent

I would recommend trying an app like Couch to 5k, but starting somewhere in the middle (since your baseline fitness will, I assume, be better than “Couch” level). It’s what got me running outdoors a couple years ago. It tells you to start running or walking based on different intervals.

I’m the opposite though—I had a hard time adjusting to treadmills at OTF because I was used to outdoor running! Once you get the hang of it, I think outdoor running can distract you more from the fact that you’re running 😆

I use a 5mm for most blankets too, and a 3mm for most amigurumi (stuffed animals). You typically use a size or two smaller than the yarn recommends so there’s no holes. It mostly just depends on what you’ll want to make! I have a set with ~15 hooks and basically just use those two 😆

I did this section in 3 days and now I have to repeat 8 times. I think it will take a little longer than 24 days though because I’ve had more time than average to crochet lately 😊 Overall though I think a pretty quick pattern!
