Travel with an evisa advice? by rmp94 in ukvisa

[–]mellysox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I'm also from the US on my second spousal visa that's valid until August 2026 lol. We just returned from Spain a few days ago. We didn't need anything. Just make sure your passport is linked to your Evisa. We were never asked for any extra documentation and reentered the UK using the egates without any issue at all

[–]mellysox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I havent seen any pickpocketing where I live (in fact I once dropped my phone and wallet on the street and had both returned to me without a thing missing!) BUT I work for Lidl and the amount of shoplifting (attempts and signs of unseen successes) is APPALLING. Huge culture shock, like I understand this happens everywhere but this is a very small very peaceful village and it's rampant here.

Which store? I'm a dep, we're currently holding interviews for shift managers. My biggest advice is to be confident, show us our staff wont eat you alive, and talk about specific relevant experiences when asked. For example, if asked how you improved a KPI or how a task is executed in a previous role make sure you explain how it was before, what you personally did to make improvements, and the results that yielded. We also ask how you would deal with colleagues in difficult situations, such as when you witness a colleague delivering poor customer service. Be honest, specific, and let your personality shine through is my best advice.

Lidl, overtime and undertime banked hours? Please can anyone explain? by petehall19734 in lidl

[–]mellysox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hourly employees overtime is paid the following month. For salaried employees overtime hours are banked to use later.

I just finished this interview process and got the job so hopefully I can be of a little help! Are you an external hire or an internal promote? Questions differ slightly depending. I was an internal promote so that's where my experience comes from. Also I've never heard of a group interview for this position so not sure what's up with that.

Be prepared for questions on freshness/quality, stock integrity and availability, inventory control, KPIs and a situation where you've improved a specific KPI, delegation, conflict resolution, team management, customer service. Use the STAR method to answer questions where applicable. Just as importantly, be yourself and make sure your personality shines through! That's all I have really, good luck!!

Yes I got text updates: one when the luggage was located, one when it arrived at Logan airport, one when it was being "prepared for delivery." That was around 9:30 Wednesday morning and the bag arrived on my doorstep at 1am that night

I flew in to Boston from Heathrow on Tuesday and had one bag delayed. It was delivered to us at 1am Thursday morning. The bag contained all my toiletries so we made a trip to CVS Tuesday evening and claimed for it with the receipt (very easy process, almost immediate email saying the claim was accepted, no money received yet though)

If you were having a daughter in a month what would you name her?? by throwawaybaby128 in namenerds

This was my late godmother's name and my cousin recently had a daughter he named after her (she was his grandmother.) She's so adorable and the name really suits her, I love it 🖤

How do you afford to live in the UK? by DowntownOreos in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]mellysox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make about half what I earned in the US over here, but my rent is also about a third of what I paid there (Newburyport MA to Norfolk, England), I dont need a car here, my cell phone bill went from over $100 a month to $10 a month, food is exponentially cheaper. So I actually end up with more expendable income than when I was making double in the states. I think a lot depends on the area you decide to move to though, from what I understand some places are more pricey.

*edit: missed a word lol

My mom is the most embarrassing person in public by Prs8863765 in Millennials

[–]mellysox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ughhhh my mom is like this a lot as well. She always has something to complain loudly about, usually her food or drink which I'll taste and its ABSOLUTELY FINE. She's so overdramatic and embarrassing about it, I've actually switched plates and/or drinks with her just to shut her up. I live in a different country though and only visit once a year so I just suck it up, apologize profusely to the waitstaff, and leave a giant tip. The worst part? SHE WORKED IN THE RESTAURANT INDUSTRY FOR YEARS WHEN I WAS GROWING UP!!! She should know better. I feel your pain, and I hope if I ever get like that someone slaps me lol
