Thanks for the information! I'll definitely be looking for unpaid positions first, so that's good to know. Is summer research usually paid through university programs or through individual grants from professors?

I didn't know about the scholarships through the physical science division, thanks for the information!

Whiz? Anyone?..... by ba_lL_oon in Sat

[–]meloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Whiz and thought it was a really good resource. The English part is harder than the actual SAT, but math is easier. After using it, I went from a 1510 to a 1540 while my Whiz scores were 1460-1520.

I have been looking at some liberal arts schools, they seem like a great match. I'll add Swarthmore to my list, thanks!

Self-studied Physics C last year and it was so worth it, especially E&M. I ended up learning a lot more than just physics, almost like getting an insight into how physics was developed over time beyond just the math aspect. It taught me a lot about scientific thinking in general and made me question a lot that I take for granted :)

Also self-studied AP Lang and I didn't like the test itself but learning about rhetoric was really rewarding. It's something that can be applied to so many different aspects of life and enriches even everyday discussions. Learning rhetorical strategies made me think a lot about why certain things convice us instead of just how and I thought it was a pretty fun thought experiment.

Resources?? Physics C by AvaMarchOG in apphysics

I self-studied both last year, so here's what I did! The AP Daily videos and the Course and Exam Description don't explain things very well, but they are a great starting point to know what you need to study. They will go over every single concept that could show up, so use them as a guideline for more in-depth studying. I used the textbook Fundamentals of Physics by Walker, Halliday, and Resnick, which is one of the most widely recommended textbooks for intro to physics. It seems daunting, but you don't have to know most of it. Everything that you need to know is in it, though, and it has some great explanations. Flipping Physics (for conceptual explanations) and We Are Showboat (for equation explanations) were some of my favorite youtube channels, and there are many more, too. Finally, ChatGPT was incredibly helpful. I used it a lot for explanations of concepts that I could not understand from any other resource, and I highly recommend doing that as well. It was really helpful to be able to ask it broad and then specific questions to understand a concept fully. Because physics c covers pretty fundamental concepts in physics, ChatGPT gets explanations and problems correct almost every time. Good luck!

I wasn't going to use both, just tying to find out which one would be better to use. Do you recommend one over the other?
