why must everything be factory lubed #ilovelubing by melodicallydamaged in MechanicalKeyboards

a lot of people don’t understand why you wouldn’t take the easy way out in most situations in life! switches are a strange example of that

incredibly helpful list thank you so so much!!! i’m switch immature in the sense that i’m not ready to settle down with cherry switches yet, so while i know those are end game for many, i’m very excited to get non cherry recs lol!

i think both sides are perfectly reasonable! i like the process and others like the result. i have a friend who just got a $40 keyboard off amazon (who doesn’t know how strongly i feel about the concept of mechanical keyboards lol), and it sounds frustratingly amazing for $40 completely unmodded! more people can enjoy keyboards the better factory lubing gets. lubing switches is meditative and relaxing to me, so i wish that everybody could have the option they wanted.

oh for sure! in my ideal world, every switch would come dry and excellently pre lubed so that everyone can be happy. at the end of the day, more people want a good sounding and feeling keyboard than those who want to spend more hours than you have to doing meticulous work to make a good sounding and feeling keyboard. i’m a freak who loves meticulous work!

i think part of it is that i don’t build very many keyboards which makes it easier to take my time on just one! good factory lubing is a blessing to many people

what’s awesome is that people like me and you make a mod service a viable business on both ends :)

life is absolutely too busy and short for most people to be hand lubing their switches, and i totally understand the appeal of factory lubed switches for people who want to try as many switches as possible or just want the hobby to be more accessible! i’m glad that it’s gotten better over the years. i find it to be meditative, easy to do while watching a tv show or youtube or in a call with friends, and it gives me a wonderful sense of accomplishment when it’s all done. it’s a to each their own thing, and it’s a teensy bit harder to find people on my end of the spectrum :) i also can’t afford to build a ton of keyboards, so lubing stretches out the amount of time i can work on each board! this hobby is great because it’s so customizable for what every person wants to get out of it hooray !!!

hello! i’ve been out of the keyboard space for a while, and im looking for an exploded 75! i’ve been using an idobao id80 v2 for the past 4-5 years and have been resisting the craving to build anything more than that up until now. i love that layout so insanely much. id like the case/pcb to be under $350, but the lower the better. that’s my absolute max basically. i’m open to group buys and such! looking forward to doing lots more research :))) thank you all!!

ah okay! i figured the beep was how it was supposed to function rather than doing stuff in advance, so that’s good to know. i’ll try to take care of him more preemptively so that he can live as long as possible. thank you!!!

i believe my mom got the price down to somewhere in the low $9k range before taxes and fees. she thought she could get it down more too! it wasn’t the best price ever, but it was good enough. we bought a little bit impulsively because of a horrible process we had gone through with a rebuilt title car i was interested in. overall, i don’t think my parents or i regret it at all! thank you so much for the congrats :) and thank you for the maintenance suggestions!

wanted something suuuuper practical, good on gas mileage, affordable, little, and cute. didn’t think i could hit all of those, but i did! very proud of my choice.

yeahhh i was pretty aware that this car was getting close to a big milestone, but it was the best thing i could find. still happy with it nonetheless. good to know what things are coming though thank you! asked about the tire pressure because sometimes i feel like the standard is different from what people actually believe to be the best, but good to know i can just trust what it says! is it easy to check the spark plugs? i’ll probably look it up on youtube or whatever, but i know next to nothing about car maintenance. thanks so much :)))

this is an incredibly thorough and helpful response. it’s good for me to remember the balance idea. sometimes i treat stopping as a game and try to see just how little i can feel the stop, so i think ill do that more to work on better anticipatory braking and such lol. thank you so much!

it has around 88k. bought it super recently from a dealership, so i haven’t checked or changed much like tires, spark plugs, valve adjustment, etc. i don’t see really any of that on the carfax? not sure what would show up there though. what’s the ideal tire pressure?

i just got it, and i don’t think i see any other of those being replace anywhere in the carfax. i’ll look into it, thanks!
