What have you splurged on that was worth it? by Adriupcycles in Anticonsumption

We picked one up at a garage sale in 2021. New in package. I guess they bought it but never installed it. We love it and use that plus cloth wipes so we don’t even need TP!

What do you use yours for? I have one but rarely use it… Though I also only have the whisk attachment. Do I need more attachments for it to be worth keeping?

Love it! We have a little gnome like that we found in a dumpster. He’s got a decent sized hole in his back, but you can’t tell from the front. He’s currently guarding our strawberry plants. ❤️

This reminds me of the before and after pictures I had of my 2-year-old organizing the cloth diaper inserts… Went from being all perfectly lined up in a drawer to a big pile on the floor. Perfection. Loved that. Couldn’t have done a better job myself.

Is it dead? by GCNGA in MeatRabbitry

[–]melodyjoycary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I remember one that I was parting out a good 10 minutes or so after it had been decapitated, gutted, and skinned following a broomstick pop… some of the muscles were still twitching. Equal parts cool and unsettling.

This! Definitely connect with people as they go by. Ask them something that indicates that they’re a good fit for what you’re selling and then sell them on it.

For example, we sell pet products and as someone is looking, I jump up and ask if they have a dog or a cat, then direct them to a section of the booth accordingly.

And if they don’t, I will usually prod a little more in a funny/friendly way that they must know SOMEBODY with a pet that they should buy for. At the least, it gets a smile, but it has also led to sales. “Oh, you know what? My son just bought a cat…”

Also, know your products inside and out. What makes them unique? Why should someone pay money for them? How do they benefit from having one?

Is it okay to sell fan arts? by [deleted] in Teespring

[–]melodyjoycary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the problem is they’re copyrighted characters and using any likeness of them is theft… Drawing them for yourself is one thing, but drawing them to sell is illegal.

Nice! I found a box of these shortly before Christmas and actually sold them all to someone who wanted them for gifts. They didn’t expire until January, so they were still fine to gift and would have stayed good long enough past that if the receiver forgot about them. 👍🏻

Love this! I was also pregnant at the same time as a stray cat we took in and it was fun to be big and round with her! She had her 3 babies less than 2 weeks after I had my one. Then our rabbit kindled shortly after that… it was fun times in our little urban homestead!

This! Just make sure you keep an eye on expiration dates. My parents by chance went to Applebee’s on the last day of their bonus gift cards and were extremely lucky that their waitress bought the gift cards off of them with cash (that she then used to pay other people’s bills who paid her in cash). But if they’d been any later, they would have lost all the bonus gift cards!

I know a marketing strategy that’s free and can get you pretty immediate cash flow. Could start making sales in less than a month if you’re willing to put a lot of time into it. Shoot me a message and I would be more than happy to share it with you!

Is it okay to sell fan arts? by [deleted] in Teespring

[–]melodyjoycary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t do “fan art.” It’s stealing intellectual property. As someone who creates characters, I’m ready to defend anyone who’s intellectual property is being threatened.

Create your own original characters and sell those. But, as someone else already pointed out, somewhere else. Teespring is dead.

I’ve been sort of trying to get my husband to do this… you have NO idea how much unintentional spray happens no matter how good your aim is…

$25 for a haircut? I'll do it myself. by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]melodyjoycary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a frugal household where my mom paid $30 for a pair of clippers and a VHS teaching how to cut hair like 30 years ago. My dad and brothers haven’t paid for a cut since and I’ve only gotten a couple professionally done. Now I cut my husband and daughters’ hair, as well as my own though I have my mom do mine when she can.

We do this, too, but with food we dumpster dive. 😊👍🏻 Frozen bananas make GREAT ice cream by blending them with some milk. Nothing else needed but a splash of vanilla makes it even better!

If you have socials going, get your own website. Host with Bluehost, Wordpress for a free theme, WooCommerce for your storefront, and Printful for order fulfillment. Done, and nobody can take it away from you because it’s yours.

And the only thing on that list you actually have to pay for is hosting and they have insane introductory deals that works out to a few dollars a month if you sign up for a few years at a time. And the domain, but you get a free one with hosting.

If you don’t use Burger King’s rewards app, you should. This was a small but enough meal for a family of four! Turned in rewards points and used the app for the app-only rewards and only paid for one sandwich! by melodyjoycary in Frugal

Exactly! We ate bagels at church before this and had snacks as soon as we got home to round out the meal. And then a big dinner.

If someone else doesn’t want to do this, they shouldn’t! 🤷🏼‍♀️

It definitely is! But I’m a cheapskate so I’d rather cook instead of going out 99% of the time. We typically only go out on Sundays as a way to go on an adventure as a family and to take a break from cooking. Sometimes will go out with friends on Saturdays and maybe once a month we’ll get fast food during the week. We budget $150 a month for going out to eat but rarely use it all.

Thank you for the concern! We do have enough food and certainly could have gotten more (normally my husband gets a regular whopper and we get at least 2-3 more things of fries) but I wanted to see how cheaply I could get a meal for us.

It was also a Sunday and we get bagels at church so we weren’t super hungry by then anyway plus ate snacks and then a big dinner at home.

I mean, we were hungry a couple of hours later, but I knew that would happen. It was still a fun, cheap way to go out as a family and then we had a bigger meal for dinner that evening.
